On the way to Yellowstone National Park, WY, I visited the Wyoming Dinosaur Center in Thermopolis which was only a short detour. The visitor center has some cool exhibits and offered rides to actual digs. They had both real fossils and some replicas on display.

Real fossils of two 70-foot long, 30-ton plant eating dinosaurs, Apatosauros and Camarasauros, highlight the collection which includes fossils from both the Jurassic (150 mya) and Cretacious (70 mya) periods.

Current dig site about a mile from visitor center. Good overview and history provided by the associate.

Heading south after seeing Grand Teton NP, I visited Dinosaur National Monument in NE Utah and NW Colorado. The visitor center north of Jenson, UT, has a sixty foot quarry cliff face with hundreds of catalogued dino bones left just as they were found when discovered in 1909. Fascinating to see.

The Dinosaur National Monument quarry site is the only place in this park where dino fossils can be seen. The high point is actually a 20-mile off-road scenic drive in the canyon area north of Dinosaur, COL, to see Steamboat Rock, located within the Echo Park region of DNM.4A7A3564m10bP30c_Steamboat Rock_DinoNP_900.JPG
