According to The Athletic's Jeff Howe, sophomore Jarrett Stidham, "barring unforeseen circumstances," appears to "have the inside track on the Patriots' starting job."
Brian Hoyer, signed for a mere $1.05 million, was allegedly told he will compete for the job, but the Patriots and the NFL already know who Hoyer is, and that's a 34-year-old clipboard-holder who can come in in a pinch but is not anywhere close to a starting quarterback. Stidham was hyped as a potential No. 1 overall pick while at Auburn headed into his final year, but the more he played, the less he looked like a future star. Still, the Patriots are likely to head into the summer with Stidham and Hoyer atop the depth chart, and the job should be Stidham's to lose after going No. 133 overall in 2019. At this point, New England has shown no interest in Andy Dalton or Cam Newton.
