Windows is promoting the imminent issue of Windows 11. Looks impressive with updated features, bangs and whistles.
Looks like some cosmetic changes and an upgrade of the meeting and social interactive features.
I am hopeful that there is more information on platform and App security.
Right now this also looks like a free upgrade if your computer is compatible with system requirements.

I'm excited about this.

But, I have learned never to be a first release adopter of a major Microsoft release. I've always waited until the first patch I(if that's what they call it nowadays).

Do any of you technical people have further input?

I don't have TPM 2 in my PC, so guess I won't. I'm fine with windows 10 and Microsoft is supporting it until 2025 I think.

I have coworkers that are using it, but I'll wait for a more broad release and stability before I move my main PC to it. MS has a really really bad rep for launches.

From all I've seen and heard, it appears to be 10 with a facelift.

I still run XP on my desktop. They took away support for some devices, and never put it back.

I can certainly live without more bloatware. I don't need bells and whistles and I don't need social interaction stuff. Microsoft's concept of "security" is making my computer more difficult to use.

There's quite a bit under the hood that is different. Remains to be seen if it is better and stable, but quite a few things changed internally.

I'm hopeful there are enhanced security features.

Like a poster said, MS launches are sometimes not the best. My personal opinion is that they're content to release Beta+ versions and let the community help debug them.

I find that Windows OS's are like Star Trek movies. Every other one is terrible. ME sucked, XP was great. Vista sucked, 7 was good. 8 was fucking terrible, 10 is solid.

So, I will pass, for now.

I wonder what further invasion of privacy will come with windows 11. Microsoft really mined your data with windows 10 and you can bet they will take that further with windows 11.

Microsoft has already been criticized extensively for the amount of data Windows 10 feeds back to the company, and it looks as though Windows 11 will continue the trend.

In Microsoft's Windows 11 blog post, the word "privacy" doesn't appear once in the copy, which doesn't exactly bode well for its messaging. Windows 11 will force users to use a Microsoft Account in its free Home Edition, which already speaks of a business model where your data is the monetization engine. Even if you're using the world's best VPN, it's not exactly going to protect your data from going directly to Microsoft if you're signed in.

Sounds like a no vote. Go ahead and vote, and you don't need an ID.
I've found out that likely I could upgrade to Windows 11, but I'm in no hurry to decide yes or no and will wait to hear more about it. Privacy wise I don't see how much worse it could get then Windows 10 TBH. Which is why I've switched to using Linux as my daily OS.

Sounds like a wait and see vote, or a IDGAF vote due to Linux.

I'm going to be trying the beta version of windows 11 when it comes out through their insider program. Did that for windows 8 also. Sort of fun to try out the latest on a experimental basis. I will let know when I get windows 11, I actually thought I'd get it as soon as I signed up for it. Once I turned on TPM 2 I was able to pick the dev channel which should of let me receive windows 11, but I didn't get it ....yet.

Edit: Once I checked for updates I see windows 11 was waiting for me.

Known issues with some older hardware/drivers. Hopefully it's not your main PC and you have options.
I wouldn't work on an insider build without fully updating all drivers/bios etc and having an active backup.

I have two coworkers on the insider build and one had issues getting it going.

My sandbox PC is down at the moment in need of a graphics card (RIP) or I would possibly at least VM it, but no chance on my main PC.

Yeah I check all my drivers, tried troubleshooting updating, check disk, and some other things and finally thought it was going to install, but at 70% it started to undo changes made to computer. Then my pin won’t work. Tried to reset computer but it always got interrupted and the computer would restart. Final after a good long while of failing, decided to do a fresh install. Maybe later I’ll try windows 11 again.

Well after a lot of adjustments and attempts I finally was able to load windows 11. Here's what it looks like on my computer:

I did lose some apps updating to 11, like my screen shot app but was able to download it and use it. Amazingly my browsers have their bookmarks and speed dial intact. That is awesome.
