I remember visiting a Ducks board and they were lauding the acquisition of The Tabasco Kid and saying Calgary didn't use him right and that the Flames were a crap team.

How do those feathers taste today, boys?

well... with Hiller out for the next 3-4 games. they need help with goaltending NOW. if this were earlier in the season, it would be a different story. less than 22 games left.

Curtis McElhinney is not a very good goaltender. He's not a starting goalie, and he's not a very capable backup. To get Ellis from the Bolts is a coup for the Ducks.

The Duck Loving Wife and I sat directly behind McElhiney in the club level. in our opinions he was having a hard time being in position. He seemed to scramble and then give up a rebound. The Ducks did a good job of keeping the Kings out from in front of him and clearing the rebounds. My wife said the he seemed to react more than anticipate.

I don't think Ellis is any better than McElhinney. Emery better be ready to play until Hiller is able to come back.

Ellis is a huge upgrade from McElhinney, IMO. He has handled a starter's role in the past and done it well. C-Mac has set a career high in games played this year with 21. He is at best a backup in the NHL, and should only be that if he's backing up a guy who can play at least 65 games a year. Ellis at his best is a top 15-20 starter, as evidenced by his play with Nashville from 2007-2010.

He played so well in Tampa Bay that Yzerman had to acquire 41 year old Dwayne Roloson.

I think this was a scenery trade. Both teams are hoping that a new team will turn these guys around for the next 22 ish games. Low risk move.

He played so well in Tampa Bay that Yzerman had to acquire 41 year old Dwayne Roloson.

For sure he hasn't had a good year, but it is similar to McElhinney. Ellis does have a history of playing VERY well at the NHL level. IN 2007-2008 Ellis played 44 games:

23-10-3; 0.924 SVPGT; 2.34 GAA.

Those are pretty nice numbers. McElhinney has nowhere near that pedigree. IMO, this makes the trade a win for the Ducks.

If they both continue playing the way they have this year it's a wash and neither is likely to see much game time. Ellis's numbers look like an anomaly in his career statistics. McElhinney looks to be just, well, McElhinney.

Nashville is a goalie factory. Vokoun, Ellis, Rinne & now Lindback. Heck they've got a couple more guys in their system they like as well.
