And just like that, there goes our first round pick.....

Business as usual at the Paul.

How do our 1st round picks manage to get hurt in practice every year? Maybe it’s time to change what we are doing.

What's sad is that Zac Taylor comes from the Sean McVeigh "Fuck it, we're not really going to do anything requiring actually hitting during the preseason" school of coaching..... I mean, they didn't even have full pads on. This doesn't bode well for his future.

yea, we did just fine last year without him, having a new player who had a great college career is more like a bonus than a requirement.

I would have to image this stems from a weight lifting accident more than anything. This does suck ass. I was not expecting him to be our savior this year, but I was expecting him to play well and learn from this rookie year to be more dominate in year two before all our pieces start vacating the building. *sigh*

There have also been whispers in the past that Saban's kids are beat up when they make it to the NFL. We certainly saw it with McCarron. I don't think Saban has any 'Friday Night Lights' type of stuff going on down there at Bama, but when you're back-up is also a 5-star blue-chipper, you probably have a lot of incentive to play even when you're hurt.

Probably very true. Just sucks. Every damn year. Marvin didn't believe in using them, made a bad choice with the 1st pick, or they are hurt. Whhhhyyyyyy? *sigh*

Who was our last 1st round draft pick that made a real impact to this team in their rookie year, not named AJ Green?

Eifert had 39 catches for 445 yards and 2 touchdowns his rookie year. Really not to bad for where he was picked.... And he definitely had one or two big moments that season.

Ironic that Eifert is known as our one 'healthy' first rounder.

HAHAHA. Oh shesh. Never even thought Eifert had a single healthy season but his pro-bowl year.

Yup. Since the last CBA the conditioning of players has suffered and more players are getting serious injuries in meaningless preseason games and early in the season.

I certainly think that helps explain the rash of in-season injuries.

For injuries that are occurring at higher rates pre-season (OTA's, Mimi-Camps, etc) I think the focus should be on how much a player changes their routine to prep for the combine/draft. These guys spend a lot of time trying to drop weight, increase speed, flexibility, and they focus on things they've never really focused on. They go back to lifting heaving again, and following their old routine, but they try and pick up where they left off and end up blowing something out.

Just conjecture on my part.
