I'm glad he did this and I'm satisfied.

If you could only keep one who would it be?

That's why RG3 is higher on the food chain. That doesn't mean he fights Shanahan to that level, but if he does, he wins.

Most coaches lack the juice to survive a dispute with the franchise star. That is a huge problem in sports culture.

Back in the day, it was clear who the boss was. Teams do not achieve unless the players buy into the coach's vision. Today's culture where the superstar wins the battle against the coach is a huge distraction to the team. Media has made the game about individual players rather than about the team because that is what sells.

The team objectives often do not align with individual objectives and the fact that an individual athlete within a team sport can win these battles is somewhat ridiculous when you think about it.

The funny thing is that he said this from the beginning. Should have never been a discussion. Said from the outset that he can not like the situation, but that doesn't mean there is friction.

RG3 is just to smart to start any type of controvery. The guy just wants to play. He wants to be the leader of this team. Taking us to a division title after so many years I believe he has earned the respect of Shanahan too. Both are head strong. Both are winners. Both will see the hall one day. Shanahan needs one more title "perhaps" and I'll let the career for RG3 play out for itself, but I believe he will achieve that career ending goal providing his on his health. OK, I know I'm getting way ahead of myself here.

Yep. Regardless - I am glad that he took the time to do - pretty classy. Even after this the media is still making a big deal out of this because - well - that is what they do. The dumbest take on this had to come from that POS Wilbon who is blaming Shanahan for drafting Cousins & creating - in his opinion - unnecessary drama. Whatever.

Right. You should trust someone who sucks as one of the more important positions in the league because "it adds drama".

If I am reading your response correctly I agree. Backup QB is important especially given recent history for RG3. As it now appears - worst case the Redskins trade Cousins in a year or two & get back more than the 4th rounder they used for him (& at worst a few key victories last season).

If the fallout from this is some hurt feelings from RG3 (which I don't necessarily believe) then so be it - it is part of the maturation process for him & RG3 needs to understand that nobody else is taking his job unless he gets badly hurt.

Wilbon has always had an-anti DC agenda even though he lives in the area. I never understood why the Washington Post employed a guy like that who always railed against the local teams (even when they were decent which was not often).

There's no way he's mad that he has a backup. That's insane.

People are stupid.

Agree but the media was all over this claim when the Skins drafted Cousins in the 4th round. It was one of the biggest topics after that draft - you would have thought that they wasted a couple of 1st rounders on Cousins they way some of the media (& people on forums like this one) carried on at that time. What a joke. Apparently - Wilbon has still not let this one go (he pretty much knows nothing about the NFL so that might explain it).
