You would think he can be had for the league minimum and there's always teams looking for more pop in the lineup come playoff chases. That whole thing tying him to some D.R. drug cartel was bullshit so.... what gives?

I've been waiting for Colorado to give him a call but then Desmond decided to start hitting again.

It has seemed odd right from the get-go.
There must be something else that isn't being reported.
He was a good guy in the clubhouse so it's not an attitude thing. Clueless in New England.

I've actually heard the opposite about him in the clubhouse. Heard he was basically a child. Nicole Auerbach once referred to him as a "douchebag" in a Tweet.

Had not heard that, thanks. There's the reason

I wouldn't quite call him washed up just yet. He can be had for the league minimum and he's still capable of driving in runs. I mean, Trevor Plouffe is on a big league roster. You can't tell me he's better than Hanley.

He's strictly a 1B/DH at this point and he's batted .260/.326/.450 (103 OPS+) since the beginning of 2015, and that's somewhat padded by a good 2016 (.286/.361/.505). His shoulder was an issue in 2015 and 2017 as well.

It would be cool if Hanley can return to 2016 form, I love that swing. Dude went off in the 2nd half that year too (147 wRC+).

Placed back in the third spot of the lineup, he began the year with a scorching April (.330 average, .874 OPS, 3 homers, 17 RBI) but faded dramatically in May (.163 average, .500 OPS, 3 homers, 12 RBI). He was hitless in his last 21 plate appearances (0 for 20 with a walk) while pounding one groundball after another to the left side of the infield.
