that the two teams tied for first place in the Big 12 would each have a home loss to a Sun Belt Conference team?

Iowa St. was whacked by the #1 team in the SBC-West, Louisiana-Lafayette; and Kansas St. was beaten by an Arkansas St. team that is tied for #3 in the West & in a 3-way tie for 7th place overall in the Belt.

Those Sun Belt teams all have excellent team speed. K-State can be a physical team and Iowa State has shown promise
in physicality. But neither team is known as "speedy" overall. Couple that with the fact that those losses came
when it was hot. They're used to that being from the South. Louisiana wore Iowa State down.

And we shouldn't forget that both Iowa St and K-St had emotion for the first game of the year, but those Sun Belt
teams did also. In addition those Sun Belt teams had something to prove. And they proved it.

Football is a game of match-ups, and both Sun Belt squads matched up well with Iowa St and K-State.

Spot on, but still speaks poorly for the B12.

Imagine if Bama and UGA had losses to MAC teams, and the argument was “they were tough matchups”. Yeah, the guffawing STILL would be going strong.

Well, it would be more like A&M and Tennessee had losses, but both happened to be tops in the SEC

As much as you’re absolutely right, I refuse to accept “Tennessee” and “tops in the SEC” in the same sentence.

Now it is not current...But between 1973-1975...Miami of Ohio won 3 straight Tangerine Bowl games, beating, in order,
Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. (So Carolina wasn't an SEC school at that time)).

Miami, O could match up with those teams; starting line-ups. (Obviously, team depth favored the bigger schools)

The era didn't have all these rotations that exist now in college football. But what helped Miami, O was the weather.

It was COLD at those games.; Cold by Southern standards) Thus Miami, O didn't have to go to their bench as much. It also had a negative
effect on the southern teams. (That, and the knowledge that winning the game got them nothing)

Miami, O was no slouch in those days. They were as good a mid-major team as you could get.; They got theopportunity
to prove they could compete with the Big Boys and they took advantage of it.
