For example, if I asked who were the two best teams to meet in the NBA Finals? One might think of 1986 NBA Finals that matched the 67-win Boston Celtics vs. the 62-win LA Lakers with all those future HOFers on their rosters.

Super Bowl XIII - Pittsburgh 14-2 vs. defending Super Bowl champion Dallas 12-4 each team going for their third Super Bowl that decade to decide the team of the decade. HOFers and Pro Bowl players all over the field.

Eh. I dont even really think this type of comparison is even possible in the modern NFL anymore. Its almost certainly two older teams so it might as well be Steelers v Cowboys even though the Steelers were 3.5 point favorites and won by 4.

Food for thought but the 2009 Saints started 13-0 and kinda coasted down the stretch. The 2009 Colts started 14-0 and then I believe rested players.

I would go with Steelers & Cowboys though.
Not only did you have the Steel Curtain & Doomsday Defense. You had two high powered offenses as well.
You pretty much had it all going into that Superbowl. & then. it delivered!

But in general I dont really think that type of thing is possible in the modern game. Almost every elite defense gets dismantled in free agency right after it wins the SB. Or you look at offense and the first Mahomes win over the Niners both teams I believe beat each team they faced in the playoffs by double digits. Chiefs offense mostly kept going for a few years but the Niners have been spotty.

but as far as Super bowl history goes.
you had top offenses & top defenses going against each other in that super bowl. Which I think was the question.

As far as recent Suerpbowls.
The Niner/Chiefs Superbowl had my interests the most. Andy Reid/Mahomes offfense vs. one of the most stout defenses. I constantly went back & forth on who I thought might win.

How is a game that at one point was 28-3 entertaining? Were you entertained at that point?

That's like those that say the Miami-San Diego playoff game was the greatest game ever. That game was 24-0 at the end of the first quarter. That's not great, that's a blowout.

The greatest games are back and forth, multiple lead changes, close the entire game.

From my lifetime I would say Super Bowl 49 - both the Seahawks and Pats were awesome in 2014, a lot of great players in that game. Seahawks/Broncos the year before too, both of those teams were great, the game was just a lopsided ass whipping.

The question was best teams not best game.

I know today's players are bigger and faster and would beat teams from decades ago. But that wasn't the question either. Those Steelers and Cowboys teams were loaded with all time greats so they are my pick.

I think this is where it gets difficult because for example the Cowboys that year lost 5 games including the Super Bowl. There is no way they would count as an all time team if we are just looking at that season

Its why I mentioned the Saints and Colts. Both basically went close to undefeated when they were trying. My memory is a little hazy but I believe the Colts were undefeated when trying and the Saints only lost one close game when trying.
