Alex Lifeson

Excellent guitarist overshadowed by two giants. Also he fought tooth and nail to keep some metal in the band.

This is easy for me, the greatest guitar player to ever live is Jeff Beck. A lot of people will never know it because he never cared about the fame and did his own thing. Also Jeff Lynne of ELO fame is a musical genius, one of the true greats.

Every time I watch Beck live, my mind is blown. The control he has over his guitar and the sounds he coaxes out of it; simply amazing.

If you haven't seen it, check out Jeff Beck: Still On The Run (currently airing on Showtime). Great documentary on his career thus far.

I don't know if Glen Campbell really belongs here because I think he's generally well regarded, but he is a guy who I hadn't heard/acknowledged at all until I realized he was a complete fucking genius.

I have two of his albums on SACD...multi-ch. Blow by Blow, and Wired.

Very subjective but I feel you...Idk if I agree he's the greatest guitar player who ever lived, but I agree 100% that he's probably the guy most people would leave off their top 10 list that should be on it.

Definitely one of the best jam session guitarists that classic rock stations have totally glossed over.
