May take some time, but I think all three eventually get in.

With the voters’ insistence of not including the PED guys (which in turn would mean no Cano), the ballot is really going to thin out toward the latter portions of the decade.

Obviously Longoria has the longest odds of these three, but he is currently ranked 18th all-time among third basemen in JAWS, has been to a WS, and even though the Giants lost the series he may have gotten the defining moment he needed for his resume during last year’s playoffs, a go-ahead homer of a future HOF pitcher himself…

All three should make it in my eyes but definitely Chase and Evan are making it no doubt

That's interesting. I was thinking Votto would be more likely than the other two, but I guess we'll find out. Maybe it's because Votto had a really good year in 2021 and it's still recent in my mind.

Votto - yes. One of the best hitters of my lifetime and a good defender. Only player with more WAR than Votto since he came up is Trout.
Utley - I think it takes a few years but he makes it. I think his peak was HOF worthy and he did just enough outside of it to merit induction
Longoria - right now I think he falls just short. He's like the 3B version of Utley, but with a lesser peak. And I don't think there's anything that really separates him from the likes of Nettles/Boyer/Bell/Bando/Ventura/Evans, all of whom are not in the HOF.

Here's your WAR leaders from 2007-22. Votto ranks 2nd, Longoria 5th.

Wait…

Of the 3, you think Utley and Longo are shoe ins and Votto is the fence-sitter?

Votto is not an “inner-circle” HOFer, but he should make it pretty easily. Utley is close to the fence, but he is probably too far away from it to touch it. Longo can see the fence, but he would have to make a pretty decent toss to hit it with a thrown football.

Hopefully none of them. We don’t want to dilute the HoF ant more than we already have. All these guys are no more than good players. Only great players should get to The Hall

I used to think that but I've changed my mind. I think they should get some permits and make it bigger. They could also add maybe a water slide and a roller coaster. And I hear people babbling about the Hall of Very Good all the time but the truth is it doesn't exist-yet. They need to get on that. I'd love to see exhibits with Ken Singleton and Bobby Grich and so many others. Maybe use Hall of Fame Village as a template.
Oh yeah, obviously a casino would have to be part of it.

finally....

Seriously though, have you guys on the West Coast even been there? It seems like they put it in the most inconvenient spot possible to just go there for the day. It's between 4-5 hours from Boston, Philadelphia and New York so if you're in one of those places on business it's still too far unless you have a whole extra day. If they added more stuff to it it could be more of a destination spot. Granted the town is beautiful* and the people that live there would hate it.
*in the summertime. I'm sure in the winter it is just as dismal as Buffalo, Syracuse and the other places up there.

I went there 30 years ago as I drove cross country on my way to college (I drove from SF to Miami, with a shortcut through NY). I was shocked at how small the town was and how hard it was to get there.
