I'm only 40 but I actually enjoy listening to Disco music over Rap or hip Hop.

I understand. But at the time it did not sit well with Kiss fans that they were just after the money. It wasn't like the group was starving at the time. It hurt them. But that is just Kiss. They went glam when the the glam movement was in. Whatever will get them money

By the end of the 90's popular music had gone to shit.

Almost all rock bands are after the money. Why do you think the Rolling Stones are still doing concerts? It's a joke that money isn't a driving force.

On Thru the Night and High and Dry were heavy metal albums and they were considered part of the British Metal Invasion the early 1980s.
Def Leppard was more melodic than other metal bands.

Of course all bands want to be paid but not all bands lose their artistic integrity. Some just become nothing more than greeting card companies.

Artistic integrity and money go hand in hand.

That was seen as a blatant sell out by Kiss. I grew out Kiss by 6th grade but they lost a lot of fans with the disco song. Gene Simmons would have put out a harmonica album if he thought it would generate millions in sales.

Kiss was always about seeking commercial success. Their very costumed existance was a "sell out", not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that.

If I was 9 instead of 19 when they started I might have been a fan as well. But the idea that they were ever some sort of serious creators of hard rock or metal is a bit far-fetched imo.

I think almost all bands start out seeking commercial success. I don't know that wearing costumes is necessarily a sell out. I see it as a gimmick similar to what other bands did. I get your point about their music. I was into Kiss in elementary school but by Junior High school we were completely done with them. I would consider them hard rock but really it was Ace Frehely's guitar playing that got us following the band. I would not think of them that way if they had continued to play rock but when they put out disco music that was over-the-top for me as it was for others. Gene Simmons markets everything imaginable under the Kiss name so it was not a surprise.

Dynasty, Unmasked, and Elder were all pretty weak compared to the rest of their catalog. Chasing the popular music of the moment will never get a good response from hard rock and metal fans.

It never struck me that all those albums you posted came out in the '80. Good stuff

I think the 60's is the best decade for music. But the 80's had it's share of good albums.

Yeah, it's just putting dates to their release. The 80s were a blur of 3 youngins and a budding career build. Hard to keep shit straight

I was lucky enough to see SRV and Double Trouble in '88.

Had tickets to his last show in Alpine Valley, WI. Had to work. That was the kind of life I lived then.

That's a bummer. Are you a BB King fan? Saw him live 6 times. Four of those during his annual summer Blues Fest that rolled into town back in the early/mid 90's.
