MLB, union agree on stipulations for return

  • There are no bans on mass gatherings that would limit the ability to play in front of fans. However, the commissioner could still consider the "use of appropriate substitute neutral sites where economically feasible";

  • There are no travel restrictions throughout the United States and Canada;

  • Medical experts determine that there would be no health risks for players, staff or fans, with the commissioners and union still able to revisit the idea of playing in empty stadiums.

So do you think I’ll get to see the Sox play at Wrigley in the middle of June?

If China has moved past it by now. I think it's reasonable that they could re-open spring training around Memorial Day or early June. Season gets going late June or very beginning of July. Opening day July 1st with opening week going through the 4th of July would feel very patriotic and appropriate.

The only part I worry about is Canadian/US travel happening within 2-2.5 months. Which I think is what they have in mind. June for spring training and early July for opening day is probably their goal to get 100 games in (at least 81).

I just think leaders will be much more conservative about international travel than they would be about opening the country back up. Since it's not exactly necessary to bring the economy back to life.

This last one is a toughy. A season is far from guaranteed at this point

Why the Fourth of July could work best as MLB's target date for 2020 Opening Day

Apparently this just happened

Speaking of which, events took a possible turn on Tuesday, as Toronto, home of the Blue Jays, announced a ban on public events conducted or permitted by the city through at least June 30. Although, as David Pagnotta tweets, this mandate does not to professional sports, it does constitute a strong recommendation against holding such events at least through the end of June.

I read today in the ny post that if they do have games it will be without fans which I’m totally fine with at this point.

MLB's London Series, scheduled for June 13-14 between the Cardinals and Cubs, has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are facing an unprecedented situation and nothing is more important than the health and safety of our players, employees and fans," reads the press release from Major League Baseball. "We send our best wishes to all individuals and communities that have been impacted by COVID-19." This follows the cancelation of MLB's Mexico Series and Puerto Rico Series, which were scheduled to take place in late April. It's becoming increasingly likely that there will be no baseball games before July, and that games might initially be played without fans in attendance whenever (if ever?) the 2020 regular season gets underway.
