The Lions fired their special teams coordinator for doing something awesome (msn.com)

Granted I guess it is easier to make these decisions when you know you wont be back the next year, but still.
Doing things the Lions way wasnt working. hey the Cowboys need a new ST coach & McCarthy loves doing fake punts.

Had they made it he would be getting a raise and possibly even the HC position. I could see the firing if this was a play-off game or a game they had to win to get into the play-offs but the Lions weren't going anywhere, why not try something?

He probably called it because he's thinking, "we suck.... my HC isn't going to be here next season, let's spice things up"
