Their manager is a retard(Brian Snitker is too, but Gabe Kapler makes Snit look like a genius).

And they rely heavily on the long ball, and when they're getting them, their offense is as dangerous as any, but when they hit a power outage, they don't score, their rotation has regressed from last season, and most of their bullpen is either on the IL or fresh off of it and rusty.

Bryce Harper, Hoskins, and McCutchen are all big on base guys (obviously McCutchen is out for the year), Segura and Realmuto are good offensive players who don't hit a ton of homers, and Kingery is a good looking young hitter. Given all that, they shouldn't need to rely on the long ball. They've really just went into the shitter since McCutchen got injured. They should be able to snap out of it with a pretty deep lineup but we'll see.

I don't think anything is wrong with the Phillies. Just a midseason slump. The offense is better than last year. The problem is all the other teams improved their offense even more. It's like when they handed out the roids to all of mlb this year the Phillies got the placebo.

Phils offense hasn't been much better than last year. Yeah they're scoring 4.78 R/G vs 4.18 last year, but their OPS+ is only a few points higher than last year and as you said scoring across the league is way up from last year).Segura/Realmuto/Harper are underperforming their recent seasons and projections by a pretty good margin, which gives hope for the offense improving. The Phillies pitching has also been pretty blah.

That's a pretty good assessment. They made a lot of moves and it's hard to argue with many of them or call any of them a bust, but they are all slightly below what was expected so far. The team in general hasn't hit as many homeruns as you'd hope for but they are still around .500 with a long way to go. It would have nice not to have lost McCutchen for the rest of the year. I would have tried to do a couple things different than the front office - like I would have paid up for a year or two of Grandal instead of trading the top starting pitching prospect for Realmuto. I also think we may end up regretting not having Crawford in a couple years but it's hard to complain about picking up quality players like Segura and Realmuto, McCutchen and Harper.

The starting 5 in the rotation is a problem.

Yeah, not any more. 6.5 at the moment. People can say what they want about Kapler but I guaranfuckingtee you he would not be rolling out a lineup with Robinson Cano batting 3rd every game the way he is (not) hitting.
