Well, after 27 years as an Eagles fan, I resigned my fanship and am following Chip to the niners. IMO, the Eagles really screwed this one up, and I can't see watching the trainwreck I now expect for several seasons in Philly.

With that in mind, I have watched every single game that Chip has coached in the Pro's and can offer some insight.

1. Why he left Philly. It was a power struggle between Roseman and Kelly that came to a head when Roseman fired Tom Gamble. Kelly asked for and got control of all personnel moving forward, and while a case can be made that he is a good talent evaluator, he also arguably spent money like a drunk sailor. I believe it was the cap management as much as the losing season that got him fired.

2. On Offense. Yes his offense is very different.
- He likes everything to be fast. All no huddle, and there is no celebrating between plays. You make a play, hand the ball to the ref and get lined up again.
- The plays come in directly to each player from the sideline via a card system. Each player knows their responsibility but not necessarily what the overall play is.
- It really is a run first offense which is different from most fast paced offenses. He likes Read Options and screens.
- Ideally, many of the decisions on where to go with the ball are made at the line of scrimmage or post snap. When executed perfectly, the QB will always get the ball to the place where the numbers favor the offense.
- The pace favors the OL over the DL. DLineman need to work twice as hard to make a play as the Olineman, and the no huddle does not allow substitutions easily. The trick is to be successful on the first few plays, and then the Dlineman get winded and the Olineman then have a huge advantage.
- The pace tends to simplify the defense the offense faces. They don't have time to get fancy and it makes it easier for the QB to figure out what is going on.

3. On defense Kelly believes in the 3-4.
- He likes having the more versatile players on the field that can rush or cover. Kelly views the 3-4 as the best alignment to stop modern offenses.
- Azzinaro, the DL coach has been with Kelly forever. While the DC may coordinate things, Az has great say in how the defense operates.

4. Kelly cares about Special Teams.
- He will personally get involved in this part of the game more than most head coaches.
- In Philly, rather than relying totally on backups to be Special Teamers, he brought in several specialists who were there soley for their special teams ability.

5. Kelly runs a complete Program.
- He has ideas about how to run practices. Loud and fast.
- He is big on Sports Science.
- He is all football all the time. Not much patience for people with other things on their mind.

Thanks for providing us with this detail. Did you happen to post this at NinerNation? A Philly fan posted a fairly detailed post there about what happened in Philly. Good stuff, Thank You.

How do you see the offense under Kap and Gabbert?

yeah, thanks for the post, especially item 2.

All these points are reasonable to me, but he doesn't have a QB with a lot of consistent accuracy. Nor does he have an O-line that'll facilitiate his offense. So for this season, we shouldn't expect instant results.

For this season, just don't want to read Kelly isn't getting along with players.

After Vick got hurt, Kelly didn't really have a QB with any good mobility. I think his preference is to run alot of Read Option stuff and with the QBs the Niners have he can do that. It should be pretty exciting.
