The Winnipeg Falcons won Canada's first ever Olympic Gold Medal for hockey (1920), so there's a pretty cool bit of history to refer back to. And pre-dates Atlanta's falcons by 40-some years.
I picked Manitoba over Winnipeg in the name because I had read that they want to make it the province's team (more than the city's), after the Saskatchewan Roughrider model. As fan bases go, that's one hell of a model to emulate.

yeah, i mean i guess some could take it that way but i really don't think it would be intended to in any stretch. i like that most nhl teams names have at least either some regional or historical signifigance.
to me its got to be either the falcons or jets.

and if you go falcons just make sure the colors aren't powder blue
