Seeing as how the 2017 draft class has 3 pro bowlers this year and all have done exceptionally well this year, it brought this question to mind. 2018 can't be judged yet, in my opinion. 2017, in my opinion, has to be up there as one of the best already. Obviously, that can change but as of right now, has to be in contention for the best. Does Shazier's injury hinder the 2014 draft class with Tuitt and Bryant? 2010 with Pouncey, Sanders and AB worked out pretty well. 1998 had Ward and Faneca, the 1974 draft class has 4 HOFers in it, 1970 has TB12 and Mel Blount. Would love to hear your guys' opinions.

74 and it's not even close.

They were putting resources into the draft at that time that were novel, it's not something that will ever be replicated without incredible dumb luck.

I agree. To me, it's 74 then 1970, 1998 and 2017.

What draft class was Mark Malone in? I'll go w/ that one.:D

Andy Dalton's a better QB than BigBen cause he gots a perfect playoff record.

Honestly the 74 class was so good that it’s not even fair to compare others to it.

A better discussion would be what’s the 2nd best draft class the Steelers have ever had?

‘17 class has the makings of something great, but we need to reserve that discussion for 4-5 years down the road when these youngsters are in their prime. A lot will happen over that span which will test that class.

One of my favorite classes was 1987.

1 - DB Rod Woodson
2 - CB (Beltin’) Delton Hall
3 - WR Charles Lockett
4 - S Thomas Everett
5 - LB Hardy Nickerson
6a - DE Tim Johnson
6b - LB Greg Lloyd
7 - TE Chris Kelley
8 - DE Charles Buchanan
9 - WR Joey Clinkscales
10 - RB Merrill Hodge
11 - OL Paul Oswald
12 - TE Theo Young

Don’t need to talk about Woodson & Lloyd’s accomplishments. They speak for themselves.

People tend to forget that Delton Hall outshined Woodson in their rookie year. Hall won the Joe Greene performance award that year. He went on to have another 5-6 solid years with the Steelers. Everett was a studly backend safety for 5 years before he went to Dallas and became a 1x pro-bowler & won 2 Super Bowls there. Remembered as one of the hardest hitting safeties. Nickerson was a 16 year vet in the NFL. He was great in PIT, but even better in the 4-3 base defense in Tampa Bay. While there he was a 4x All-Pro & 5x Pro-Bowler. Johnson was another great player that the Steelers ultimately failed to keep around because of a contract dispute, but he went to the Redskins and became a 2x pro-bowler & SB champ. Hodge was a very reliable RB in his 7 years in PIT.

I think 1971 is another class that gets lost in the discussion.

Frank Lewis, Jack Ham, Dwight White, Larry Brown, Gary Mullins, Ernie Holmes, and Mike Wagner.

I mean, '74 isn't just the Steelers best draft class, but pretty widely acknowledged as the best draft class the league has ever seen.

There were 5 HOFers in that draft, Steelers got 4 of em.
