What was the first LP (or whatever the format was) that you ever bought? I only bought singles until I got my first real job the summer I was 15 and enough money in my pocket to start buying LPs. I bought these 2 the same day.. still have them.

My Aunt Mildred owned the record, my first favorite song, the first 30 seconds as good as music gets.

Don't really remember, but probably the first Monkees album or Herb Alpert. Always did enjoy listening to his music.

I'm not sure what my first album purchase was, but it was probably one of the following:
a) A non-major label compilation album that featured the theme songs (and other selections) from the Bat-Man, Tarzan, and Green Hornet tv series;
b) Super Hits Vol. 2 from Atlantic Records (1967) that featured a lot of R&B, pop & rock hits from artists like Aretha Franklin, Sam & Dave, and others; or,
c) More of the Monkees (1967) on Colgem records.

I would follow the Monkees album up later the same year with another by the group, entitled Headquarters.

I bought Super Hits Vo. 3 in 1968, along with Super Oldies Vol. 3 by Capitol Records. It tried to outdo Atlantic by releasing its collections in the double-LP format, and included a more varied lineup, with artists such as Peter & Gordon, Lou Rawls, Steve Miller, and Bobbie Gentry.

I purchased Super Hits Vol. 4 in 1969 - the same year I latched onto my first two Creedence Clearwater Revival albums - which I believe were Green River, and Willie and the Poor Boys, both on Fantasy Records. I would later go back and purchase their first two albums, Creedence Clearwater Revival (released in 1968) & Bayou Country (1969).

The 1st album I ever bought was Smash Hits by Jimi Hendrix. (early 70's)
The 1st 8-track tape I bought was Led Zeppelin 2. (also early 70's)
The 1st cassette tape I bought was Sticky Fingers by the Stones. (mid 70's)
The 1st CD I bought was LA Woman by The Doors. (mid 80's)
Prior to that I used to buy a bunch of 45's back in the day....I had lots of Motown, R &B, & early 70's pop stuff.
Used to get them brand new, 2 for $1.00..or .69¢ each back then, but they costed a little less if you wanted them in mono...instead of "hi-fi"..or stereo....lol

I never got into cassettes much. I didn't care for the sound compared to vinyl. There only advantage was being portable. I think the first one I owned (but did not buy: it was a gift) was Creque Alley by the Mamas & Papas.
