Islanders defenseman Andrew MacDonald is due for a hefty raise, reports New York Newsday, but it might not be with the same team.
MacDonald, 27, is in the final-year of his current contract and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

The native of Judique, Nova Scotia, is having a career-year and is leading all Islanders players in ice time, averaging almost 26 minutes per game.

He is making $575,000 in salary this season, and the paper suggests he could see that figure skyrocket near the $5 million range.
However, with the Islanders struggling, the team could start selling off some of its assets, including MacDonald, if they cannot climb back into playoff contention by the end of the month.
"I think you realize it's there, that it's possible or whatever," MacDonald told Newsday. "I'm hopeful things get done. We've dug ourselves a pretty big hole here so there isn't really time to worry about that."
MacDonald might not be the only player the Islanders attempt to sell if GM Garth Snow decides to go that route.
Thomas Vanek, acquired from the Buffalo Sabres earlier in the season, is also set to hit the UFA market this summer and would command a high return; Snow would want at least a first-round draft pick and a second-round pick in exchange for the Austrian star.
Winger Michael Grabner's name could also start floating around the trade block, if the team looks to sell. Grabner, 26, has struggled this season, scoring just five goals so far. He has two-years left on his contract beyond this season at an annual cap hit of $3 million, a friendly contract for a former 30-goal scorer

The Fourth Period :: New York Islanders :: MacDonald in line for a big raise

Have a feeling he may end up elsewhere next year.
