Canucks file "cutdown" arbitration on Mason Raymond. Q.O is $2.6 million. Salary can't drop more than to $2.21 million if Van wins arb case.

Could save the #Canucks 400k using a type of arbitration/QO that almost no one has ever heard of

To learn more about "cutdown" arbitration, read Article 12 of the CBA. It provides an option for teams to "cut" a player's salary...

Cut down arbitration goes like this...

Raymond - I'd like $3 million a year
Arbitrator - That's awful greedy for a guy who had weak sauce on his wrister last season. How many goals did you have? 23?
Raymond - No, only 10.
Arbitrator - Wow (laughs)... just 10?!? I figured for a guy asking for $3 mil you had more than that.
Raymond - I had some injury issues.
Arbitrator - (makes crying gestures) Well, you must have led your team deep into the playoffs then.
Raymond - No, we lost in the first round
Arbitrator - Boy, somebody wasn't Captain of the debate team in high school. Let me turn to the Canucks and see if they can make a better case for you than you can for yourself.
Canucks - Well, we are thinking $2.2 million would be more fair.
Arbitrator - Oh is that what you think? And how many Stanley Cups have you guys won?
Canucks - Technically zero, but...
Arbitrator - (mockiningly) Well, technically... shut up.
Raymond - This seems a little unnecessary.
