what on Earth is wrong with the Yankees?

Discussion in 'New York Yankees' started by cubzzzfanincali, Jun 23, 2015.

  1. OK, so look I know you Yankee fans put up with a ,lot of shit that is basically jealousy at it's source. Fine, whatever, long lasting success has it's enemies. Although I don't like the Yankees, I have always respected (up until this year) their organization for consistently doing whatever it takes to put a winning ballclub on the field. A lot of their players are trure greats of the game, men to be honored and celebrated.

Then along comes A-Rod. Now, I get why he was signed etc and cheered for years..until now. But as however bad his steroid use was or was not, his absolutely deplorable....douchebag-grade....snitching of his confidants, his chronic lying....I don't know, those didn't seem like "Yankee values." Indeed, at first it sure seemed like the team tried very, very, very hard to distance themselves from him. His fans did too.

Then, he wins the battle and gets let back on the field. He passes 3,000 hits. The fans are cheering him wildly, which...outside of New York City.....is raising a collossal sense of "WHAT ON FUCKING EARTH IS WRONG WITH YANKEE FANS?" But what is somehow even weirder is now the team is trying hard to get the 3,000 hit ball back. Why on Earth would they care? About this self-evidently detestable scumbag?

That a small subset of Yankee fans are so whorish for a few cheap wins they celebrate this is bound to be inevitable in a fanbase of many millions. But why the organization? Do they not recognize the celebration of this putrid scumbag of a human being, who has done more to ruin baseball than anyone else by a longshot, is not worth his puny WAR? You are selling your entire reputations away...does that really not matter to you, Yankees? I am one of a lot of people who defended you against the many jealous brainless sheep....but now you are making us ashamed. I want to quit watching baseball altogether now...over a guy and a team I really fundamentally don't even care about. Does anyone even care?

So I will leave you this small part of a column written in The New York Post. It goes like this....

Joe Girardi is limited to what he can do with the Yankees feeble and aging lineup, but he must do something to get these hitters moving in the right direction. The Yankees can’t just sit back and wait for the day Bryce Harper becomes a free agent.

After Wednesday’s night’s horrible 5-2 loss to the light-hitting A’s at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees once again were hitless (0-for-4) with runners in scoring position and for the season own a grand total of six hits with two outs with runners in scoring position. That is off-the-charts ugly and dead last in the majors.

Their Baseball IQ is terrible too.

Even New York's own columnist know that this Yankees team is a disaster. It couldn't happen to any other team and their fan base. Roaringly funny...IMO

Well, even when the Boss was alive the Yankees have had their issues with former greats. Just look at Yogi for one example. The way they let Bernie go, even Posada, kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe they as individuals and as an organization they're trying to turn that 'trend' around. Sure, Jeter got a great sendoff as one the all-time greats of Yankeedom, I think Mo got treated fairly well too, but the 'core-four' didn't win those WS by themselves. Guys like Brosius, Martinez, Boone, O'Neill and many others that weren't particularly great didn't get the treatment Jeter did. Maybe it's ok that they didn't maybe not... but it seems to me that they're at least trying to be the class organization they're known to be for all intents...

They know internally that A-Rod has been probably more trouble than he's worth, but what do you do? They could've tried to argue breach of contract on his part, but that was no guarantee. Ultimately A-Rod will go down as one of the best, even with a nice huge asterisk next to his name like Sosa and McGwire for the late 90s era along with others who were juicing.

I didn't want A-Rod, but I'm only a fan... imagine being a Steinbrenner and not wanting the drama but the A-Rod that tore up the Park in Arlington for all those years, and getting what he got? I'm sure they and Cashman feel a bit taken advantage of... but then again... guys like Kevin Brown didn't exactly earn their salaries either... the Yanks have overpaid for over the hill vets for a long time.

Perhaps they're just putting on their best faces amid a rather tumultuous time who knows. But I guess the train had to stop rolling at some point. When you look at where the Yanks are now they're quite old as a team. Been that way for awhile too... they mortgaged away their prospects for years to be in yearly contention. While that was nice and appreciated by myself as a fan, I knew full well that eventually that would come back to haunt us as well. Now I'm a bit puzzled by them moving Miller, but they need to get that average age down, time to clean house or at least several rooms.

Would the Yankees face as much negativity if they made no gestures towards the feats A-Rod reaches while a Yankee? Maybe... maybe not. They made their bed with A-Rod... they should at least have to sleep with him... so to speak. When he's gone they can rebuild not just the team but their image too. Without Jeter there's really little focus to shift from A-Rod to someone else. Who in that clubhouse speaks like Jeter did or has a whacky Persona for the media to latch onto? Swisher is the most recent I can think of.

I dunno man, do Cubs fans rail Sosa or do they like to remember the positives he brought before corking his bat?

I care, but not THAT much. If the Yankees honor the guy they do... doesn't mean I have to agree with, nor does it mean I have to join in with fervor. I will say this much, since he's returned he's kept his mouth shut and head down... not that his play has been stellar, but at least he's not attention seeking and causing even more problems.

Love these Baby Bombers. Sanchez and Judge are going to be Beasts. Now we just need some pitching. I like the young core of Judge, Sanchez, Didi and Castro. add some other young guys and build pitching and we got something here.
