What Now? (Receivers and Centers)

There's a general consensus that with most of the heavy lifting done, especially on defense, the next moves must, out of necessity, be laser-focused on the offensive side of the ball. The two most prominent positions of need are WR and Center, one IMHO due to years of neglect, the other, for reasons unclear, made purposely. When asked to post this thread, my immediate thought was to jump on it quickly, but the more I considered it, the more I was convinced to give it at least one night and part of today before proceeding. It turns out that by waiting, answering the questions posed to me, specifically, "How would you (meaning me) address the WR room?"
"How many, which round(s), and who would you (I) target?" "How many and who would you target?" "Who would you trade for and what is the compensation for the player?" and finally, "Draft, Trade, Free Agency, what combo would you pursue and who are the targets?"

Tackling the first question first, Center, we know for certain that Nick Allegretti made it clear that he is in line to compete for the job and, in doing so, faced some backlash over his ability to bring no more than what Biadiasz had already been providing. The reasonable explanations for releasing Biadasz before getting his replacement are a dead certainty that his replacement is already in-house or will be soon, and/or to give him the full advantage of the "open" period. I suspect they are targeting Connor Lew out of Auburn, the top center in this class, who likely fell out of first or second round considerations due to injury concerns.

Let me add two speedy guys who are on my radar because I wanted the Commanders to get Rashid Shaheed, and they didn't. ( Both are rather small for my taste, but you cannot discount this kind of speed.)

1. Brenen Thompson, Mississippi State, 5' 9" 170lbs and runs a 4.26 forty (a late round pick as BPA at position of need)

2. Zavion Thomas, LSU, 5' 10" 190lbs runs a 4.28 forty (another late round pick as BPA at position of need)

For now, the plan for AP and Washington has to be to exercise patience and play the waiting game. We are two days into the official free agency period, and there are going to be guys let loose post-June 1 cuts as the offseason moves closer to training camp. I don't think Jefferson makes this roster. Could be proven wrong down the road. Additionally, this feels like AP telling Shanahan that if he thinks he's getting ANYTHING out of us for Aiyuk, he is mistaken.

For us, it's the only hopeful option because there's no 2nd round pick. I believe there will be a short run on WR in round two, which is why I listed 5. That short run will remove three at most, leaving two in round three.

Also, be persistent about those trade options. I want this team to be loaded at WR. Pulling off a trade before the draft opens up so many more options. Perhaps a bit unrealistic, but let's swing for the fences here. They can have Thomas jr/Olave, Aiyuk, Terry?, and the big fight for 4, 5 among Burks, Jefferson, Lane, Brown, Luke, and perhaps a rookie, yielding a formula that looks like this:
Really good run game + dangerous pass catchers = Jayden runs less.

I have to tell you, that I thought about this guy for quite some time beforevI created that thread, and while his measurables are off the chart, there are reasons why he was excluded. They are;
1. His initial speed, that which is often used to separate isn't as dynamic as it is with the others. He rarely saw tight press coverage on short throws and he's definitely going to see that in the NFL.

2. Terry fights for the ball and is consistently among the best at contested catches, but not this guy! For him it's either a clean catch or nothing. That could change in time!

Now to be fair to him, I almost included him because he is the son of Chris Brazzell, (Jets and Ropers back in the day) and only 22 years old. His upside is tremendous and sons of formers have that pop training on their resumes.

I don't see this draft as a particularly great draft, especially for WRs! I see most coming off of the board in the mid second, and third rounds, and unfortunately a few falling to round 4 or later.
