What is wrong with the Pelicans (besides Zion)?

The Pacers (who lost to Detroit, mind you) led these guys by 32 points after three quarters the other night…

Did Lonzo Ball mean that much to this team? It seemed like common logic at the time to not match the Bulls’ $85 million offer sheet. Is it the rookie coach? Any regression and/or attitude issues with Ingram?

Why is this team so bad?

The guy I feel for at this point is Jonas Valanciunas. Memphis didn’t want to extend his contract (smart), so he gets himself traded to this dumpster fire.

They play zero defense

They lack any spacing

They absolutely should’ve paid ball (They thought they were getting Lowry lol)

And their young guys haven’t developed at all

Whew...we have a laundry list for the Pelicans:

1) Letting Lonzo go instead of retaining him was a potentially catastrophic move.
2) Not integrating/focusing an offense around Brandon Ingram is an issue too.
3) They should have been monitoring/requiring Zion stay on a plan committed to his health and weight.
4) No direction for the team. Do they still rebuild and go young? Do they acquire more win now guys? They're in limbo.

and this is last year of contract

Not true. He's under contract for 22/23, and a QO is due for 23/24. Restricted free agent if he turns down the QO.

I think it’s safe to say he was one of the more overhyped players to come along in quite some time.

Trading jrue instead of using their picks and laker picks to add another star was a mistake

He isn't signing...you think pelicans want nothing in return?

He isn't a free agent. He is due for the rookie extension this offseason. If he doesn't accept it then he is a restricted free agent in 2023.

5) Passed on Garland, traded down and took Hayes who isn't exactly a good fit with Zion (if Zion plays again).

Fat guys who rely on jumping aren't great bets for longevity in the NBA, lol.
