At 10, Broncos select: T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa’s

For second pick, Denver trades with Rams moving from 41 to 31 in exchange for a 4th and 5th round pick, and select Daniel Jones, QB, Duke.

Is your TV safe? Are you thinking, “there goes Elway again!”?

I'm still waiting and wishing that Butt and Fumagalli will blossom and we won't need to take a tight end in round 1. I think I like Fant better anyway.

Although 10 is pretty high for a TE, I’d be excited to have a legit threat. It’s been since Julius Thomas that TE hasn’t been a glaring weakness. I think Fant might be a better receiving TE, I’m guessing that Hockenson fits the type of blocker/receiver that Denver may look for.

I think like last year it will be hard to displease me at 10. I hate taking a TE early but it is a major need and an Iowa one at that. ;).

Kinda tired of pissing around with the day 3 TE’s although I remain very high on Fumagalli. Butt might be damaged good but I pray not.

Daniel Jones isn’t a QB I am real high on but rd 2 is great value. I could live with this. I appreciate his smarts and toughness.

Unless Peyton Manning has signed off on Jones pass on trading back into the 1st. Round. History is not on the teams side to find a franchise QB within the last 4-5 picks of the first round.

Im with DC. At 10, it's hard to get mad about anything. Having a true TE there for a decade or so would be nice; haven't had that since Sharpe; though he wasn't a true TE.

Trading up for Jones? Gross. I'd rather trade completely out and mortgage all of next year's picks on a qb than settle for someone who is another stop gap.

It'd get a low B from me.

Honestly, I just threw that in to see if we have any fans of Jones here. I don’t think he will be available at 31, but it is where you see teams moving up into round 1 to get a sliding QB - and in this case to get in front of Patriots, who I could see drafting him.

Yeah the Patriots seem to really like Daniel Jones and Josh Rosen right now.

I think there is a world of difference between Paxton Lynch and Daniel Jones. Lynch was widely regarded as a project QB who would take a couple of years to be ready to be a starter. Scouts were impressed with his potential and what he could develop into. Jones has a much higher floor than Lynch, but a much lower ceiling. If we traded into the first for him, I would actually like it. I think Peyton would have the low down on Jones, given the connections to his coach and if Elway made that move, it tells me that Peyton recommended Jones, which would give me confidence.

I don't want to see Hock at 10, though. I think taking a TE early is a luxury pick and we have other needs that should be addressed. Highly rated TE prospects have been very disappointing recently. The last tight end that was chosen in the top 15 that has been worth it was Tony Gonzalez. Maybe you can make a case for Eric Ebron, since his career is not over and he finally showed signs of life last year, but that does nothing for Detroit, which was the team that drafted him. Vernon Davis was decent, I guess, but there are a few guys drafted after him that I would be happier with looking back, although that draft was kind of weak after I looked at it.

Maybe we should go back to Ebron to make my point. He was selected at 10. Picks 11-20? Taylor Lewan, Odell Beckham, Aaron Donald, Kyle Fuller, Ryan Shazier, Zach Martin, CJ Mosely, Calvin Pryor, Ja'Wuan James, and Brandin Cooks. This may be on the opposite end of the spectrum since most classes won't be THAT good, but still...
