Round 1- Cody Whitehair, OG, Kansas State

Round 2- Tyler Boyd, WR, Pittsburgh

I would dislike the Whitehair pick. To me he is a 2nd round pick. I don't take an OG in round 1 unless they are special and I just don't see that in Whitehair. Round 2? Sure!

I would be doing a feel cart wheels if we got Boyd in round 2. With Carroo the most overlooked WR in the draft this year. He is a 1st round pick who is gonna end up going in round 2. Can come in as the 3rd WR and be our return man from day 1. Great hands, route running. YAC and upside.

I would be disappointed tbh. Two lower impact positions. No T/CB/PassRush/QB in first two picks.

I should go back. I wouldn't be doing "feel cart wheels" for Boyd. I would be doing a "FEW"... Just wanted to clarify before LGM came in all excited. ;)

Boyd is way better then a late 2nd round pick. It would be theft.

Whitehair? GRRRR. Just don't see him as a first round pick like a lot have him.

Why take whitehair round 1, when you could go defense and get McGovern/Westerman round 3 or Seumalo/Thuney round 5?

No guarantees in the draft. On paper I agree, if you like someone enough though you take him before you miss out on him. (Could be case for Westerman, Semualo Thuney going earlier then we may expect them, like Beadles did a round early) so that is a risk you take, but I look more at Whitehair the player and he just isn't a first rd pick. IMO.

If we are taking a guard round 1, it has GOT to be a guy who can play tackle down the road. Otherwise, they aren't worth a first given the 5th year option and the controlled salary of a first round pick. Never should take G, RB, C, ILB, S round 1 IMO

For the most part I agree. There are some rare cases.

Jonathan Cooper is not one of those rare cases.

I liked Chance Warmack coming out, but he was more of a late rd 1 pick to me then early rd 1 pick.

DeCastro and Iupati and Martin are like the only ones I can think back on and justify

And I agree, there are exceptions, but in general, I wouldnt touch those positions round 1 given the open market price of them. You want to get cheap contracts and talent at key positions.

Safety is one position that if you get that ball hawk who can tackle I am all for it, but if it is a 1 dimensional safety then I wait on S. I have no problem if you have that Ed Reed/Sean Taylor/Eric Berry type, but if a S can't cover then I am not touching him in round 1.

Agreed. Still tread lightly at safety though. Kenny Phillips, Calvin Pryor, Jimmie Ward, Eric Reid, Matt Elam to name a few

Yeah and Phillips is a guy I would have been ok with using a late 1st on. He just never stayed healthy with his knee.

Elam is the S who can hit, tackle but not a cover guy coming out. I loved the guy but he was more of a round 2 pick but all due respect he was the last pick of round 1. Now he is injured and while he can hit big he has whiffed a lot going for the big hit.

Ward is a guy I liked but no way was he a first round pick. He was a more intriguing prospect when he was viewed as a 3rd rd guy. He actually isn't even playing S he is playing CB.

I was never high on Pryor when a lot wanted us to draft him two years ago.

Loved Eric Reid and I would have had no problem using a first on him. Ball skills, great range. Not a fearsome tackler but good enough with his coverage skills and size/speed in college.

9ers have taken Reid, Ward and Tart last 3 years.

S in rd

1
1
2

Granted their plan with Ward was at CB. annnnnd they still need DB help.

Reid had 7 picks his first two years and then 0 last year. Give that guy a pass rush and he'd be one of the best ball hawking S's in the game.

Which leads me to my next point. If you take a S in round 1 I really feel it depends on your situation. Are you ok at pass rush?

It really depends on a team by team basis if you can afford to grab that S in round 1.

I look at it this way for the Broncos though...

What are the key positions

QB, LT/RT, Corner, Pass Rusher, Inside Pass Rush

I would say right now at all those positions other than QB we are looking pretty strong. Maybe another inside pass rusher DE/DT to help replace Malik.

So with those positions looking pretty good and my doubt that there will be a 1st round QB actually available at the end of the 1st I wouldn't mind us going towards another position that maybe isn't quite as high on the impact position list.

I am one that does like Cody Whitehair. Maybe not in the 1st because as was said it does look like he will be limited to playing inside at the NFL level. I would probably be more inclined to go a guy like Germain Ifedi that you can start on the inside and build him up to move outside but I also view Whitehair as a quality starter on the inside for maybe the next 10 years. I view him as one of the least riskiest players you can draft in this draft barring injury.

Boyd to me is is a guy that probably comes in his rookie year and is ready to go from day 1. Good route runner, decent speed, very good hands, and offers more beyond just the WR position.

I view this draft as one I could be ok with. I would know I am getting 2 of the more polished players in the entire draft that can contribute from day 1. I wouldn't be excited in the sense of I do think we have holes on this team and I would feel like this kind of ignored some of the holes and I wouldn't view this as BPA in the sense of I do think Whitehair falls into the early part of round 2. Boyd yes is great value at the end of 2 though so maybe that cancels itself out a bit.

Glad we can be on the same page on that. I honestly right now have very little clue what Elway will do. I look at a guy like Paxton Lynch and I see a guy that physically looks like what Elway loves in a QB. I've been hearing rumors that he won't go top-10 like so many keep saying because of how raw he is and a top-10 team not wanting to be so committed to such a project so I could see if say he slips to the late teens Elway jumping up to get him. We have the fire power draft wise especially knowing good chance we have some extra 3rd round picks next year that we can work with. At the same time I can see Elway just deciding this QB class isn't worth anything and just taking a late round guy and using the early rounds to pick talent and surround a guy like Sanchez with.

Heck I am hearing more and more that the 49ers and Kaepernick are almost for sure heading towards a divorce. Maybe Elway wins out giving up less than what he would have a month ago because the 49ers are desperate to get rid of a guy who doesn't want to be there. Elway still seems to love Kaepernick being his top choice. I don't mind Kaepernick but I also see some major weaknesses that I just won't know what to expect from him.

Between Kaepernick and Sanchez - I'll I have to say is Sanchez wants to be a Bronco and acts like it.
