Relaxed and refreshed from their off day yesterday, the Rangers roll into Cali for six games, starting tonight against the 2nd place Angels. Both teams are 5-5 in their last 10. Dunning and Otto will be on the mound, and both games are at 8:30.

Of note on the hitting side is that Semien has a 5 game hitting streak going. Calhoun and Miller are also hitting at a good clip as well.

There is a The Athletic article out today with a theory that the missing 2020 season for this in the minor leagues have hurt their development and that is why we are seeing several prospects struggling once they are brought up.

"There’s a belief in baseball circles that we’re seeing the effects of the lost season of minor-league baseball in 2020, when the pandemic wiped out the entire season, robbing many of these players of critical development time."

“I am convinced that’s what we’re watching,” Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto told The Athletic recently. “You are seeing guys that, through no fault of their own, missed out on 500, 600 plate appearances and maybe more, and their development was accelerated."

“You’re constantly trying to create challenges and force players through some level of adversity before they have to face it in the big leagues. Facing adversity (here) is a really hard lesson to learn. I’m watching that happen.”

“I think it’s affected a lot of players and a lot of organizations,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “When you take a young prospect trending towards the big leagues and you remove the game from him — I know they were working out and stuff (at the alternate site) — but it hurts their physical development and also their mental development.”

"Removing a full season from their development arc, as was the case in 2020, hit some players worse than others. And while there’s no way to absolutely quantify these struggles as being the byproduct of that loss summer, many believe it certainly has been a contributing factor."

I wonder if the Rangers will trade a catcher at the deadline to use the value that we are keeping on the bench to bring back a player that can play on a regular basis.

i expected that just from the injury. which means we have to keep 2 catchers on the 26-man just to be safe. now give both time on the field at catcher with Huff getting a day a week at 1st and some pinching hitting

Do you consider Garver as a catcher since he is not able to play other than DH? Hard to see a trade in MO

No, Garver is not in the catching equation. He has nothing to do with trading a catcher to better utilize value.

It would be Huff or Heim that would be traded.

i don't. he's a DH. he can't throw at all. i think Saddles is suggesting we trade either Heim or Huff and bring in someone who supposedly would get to play daily at another position. and bring some worthless catcher who can sit on the bench and contribute little or nothing in

Only if someone wants just his bat.
If he is not in the equation, how can we trade a catcher? Would leave us with Huff or Heim withe no back up.
