Indy has a Hell of an OL, a solid RB, a good defense and most important an excellent HC. They won't make him try and win games by throwing 50 times a week to scrub receivers. Comeback player of the year
^This. If Wentz can't succeed on this team then I don't know what to tell you. He doesn't have to be the savior. The Colts are in win now mode. If Wentz stays healthy look out.

Well they ended up with conklin anyways...
It shows how important talent evaluation is. Took Corey Coleman ahead of Michael Thomas and Jabril Peppers ahead of TJ Watt. Thats a considerable talent discrepancy

Look for Zach Ertz and others to be dealt or cut soon. Philly is going young and rebuilding.

nevermind Ertz has said on multiple occasions he wants out

when your over the cap by a shitload and carry the dead money philly will carry, the logical statement is we're rebuilding.
you'd seem a tad smarter if you sold this on the philly board than here

If Wentz flops in Indianapolis the Colts will be out a 3rd round pick, a 2nd round pick, and $40+M. If it works out Wentz will probably be worth $50-55M and the 2nd round pick will become a 1st. It looks like a lose or break even at best, move for the Colts.

Looks to me like the Colts could cut him in 2022 for zero cap hit and his cap hit this year is 25 million, not sure how you came up with the 40million figure.

He's being paid $25.4M this year and $15M of his $22M in 2022 becomes guaranteed in March 2021. There isn't a zero-cost out after 1 year.

If he completely flops to the point he is cut before 2022 he will cost $40M over the 2 years. If he flops but is retained as a back-up/starter he will cost $47M over the 2 years. I would expect him to be retained at $47.4M total because it's hard to see him not being worth at least $7M as a back-up, but I posted the lowest cost for impartiality.

If there wasn't a 2nd year guarantee I think Wentz would have had considerably more trade value.

So if Wentz works out as a true starter that's not easily worth a 1st and 3rd?

I suggest you read the line above the one you've quoted than resorting to large colour print. The line you've quoted refers to the remaining $7M salary and the insignificant $1K bonus.

If it works out it he's, (maybe), worth a 1st, a 3rd, and $47.4M. If it doesn't he's not worth a 2nd, 3rd, and $40+M. I don't see the Colts coming out ahead with this deal and I can definitely see them coming out behind. For reference Goff was rated about #21 as a healthy, starting QB and if he's worth nothing at $53M over 2 years then there's a high bar for Wentz to be worth a 1st round pick more than Goff.

If it works out it is a great trade for the Colts. Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't looked at the financial realities of having a veteran starting QB in the NFL.

the eagles offense under hurts would have placed them 9th in the NFL. keep in mind, he didn't play the 4th against washington either. the eagles offense under wentz was around 26th.
The team also looked like they were giving more with a new QB. Hard to say if hurts was there from the first game if it would have been the same. They didn’t look like they have 2 shots when Wentz was under center

Sometimes its all about the situation Philly is a tough place to play I am sure there were times even McNabb didn't like playing in front of that tough crowd. Then mix in that there were issues in the locker room and issues with management and head coach it would be very hard to produce in that situation.

I think everyone wins with Carson still getting paid a ton of money in which he didn't earn, the Eagles unload that contract and salvaged some picks, for the Colts if they can get a pro bowl QB they pretty much won out big if not then losing a low end 2nd and 3rd wont set you back years.
