Carson Wentz led jersey sales in D.C., Maryland and Virginia, which is a total travesty

According to the data, the DMV's most attractive jersey belongs to Carson Wentz, who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles, who are a sworn enemy of the Washington Redskins, who apparently are having a rough time selling merchandise in their own backyard.

Gentleman... that high pitched whine you hear is Redskins one firing up to get back to the Redskins way.

By week 1, Alex Smith jerseys will have taken the area by storm though. By week 6, those jerseys will be burning and Alex Smith will be on the bench.

mortgaging the future for a RB who is the biggest name in the draft at this point seems likely.

I mean it worked for the Saints when they did the same thing for Ricky Williams right?

Are we doomed because Wentz jerseys sold better in DC than Redskins swag?? Nope.

I started the thread just to remind you that far too many times, the moves coming out of Ashburn are not always based in football first logic.

Many residents from DC are not originally from here. The Redskins play sell well when they are winning. It has been over 20 years since the have won.

NFL package, red zone channel, bars that hype other teams .... I don't see THAT guy in this draft. Griffin was the golden boy, sadly he was gold plated and not the real thing.

Yep & not just in DC. Younger fans in this era are more likely to root for teams that are not tied into their geographic region (if they even care about the NFL at all). Even many much older fans act in the same manner. Also consider that Wentz was the likely MVP if he stayed healthy & played for what turned into the best team in the NFL. Who did the Redskins have who even came close?

As for Cousins many fans probably were also scared by the prospect of buying yet another jersey for a guy who would be on another team shortly. All of these to some degree should likely be of concern to us but to Snyder? Please - I highly doubt it. Also - again remember the sales of things like this are pooled in the NFL & not given solely to the team of any given player.

IMO - none of this is a big deal but if some want to use this as more bitching material - please have at it.

Although the NFL is far and away the most viewed entity, there are a number of reasons why this has happened. I cannot list them all, however, beyond the ones that @Sportster 72 noted, those that come to mind are: (Not in order of importance)

1. Dan Snyder/
Bruce Allen.... For as much as it might be easy for some to separate the team from its' owner,
others just won't be able to see themselves contributing to this man's coffers. Add
Bruce Allen and it's easy to see some turned off of this product.

2. No star value...Let's admit it, people love stars and for as much as some would want to point to guys like,
Kerrigan, Cousins or Reed, this team just doesn't have a player of the type that the paying
public is drawn to.

3. Team Name...This entry is certainly one that I expect to get significant blow-back from, but make no mistake, it contributes to that dip in merchandise sales. How much? who knows, but even if it's 1% or less, it all adds up.

4. Instability... It's easy to see a QB's jersey as the leading seller, not knowing year to year who that's going to be has to have some effect on lower sales numbers.

5. New Jack... versus old jack and how disposable income is being redefined and reallocated. These are not
your father's times when entertainment choices were limited, according to his time. Today
people are being a lot wiser with their future's, since the time that they could work for 20
years on the job then sail away with a pension and gold watch no longer exist. To that end
how they spend what's now their disposable income has become part of a cornucopia of choices.

Those are some that I could come up with at first blush, it would be interesting to read what others you all can think of.

Fashion and competition?

There are slicker more fashionable things to wear that represents your team. Hoodies, zip ups, etc.

There was a time when people went to baseball games.... I mean brought gloves to baseball games. Now when I see an adult or even a teenager with a glove at a baseball game its hard for me not to laugh at them.

There was also a time where you went to a game and you saw the same fans every week at the home games. For years and generations. Since the team moved to Fedex, I think the first two years when i had season tickets, the people next to me were the same people, by year 4 it got to be a different crowd at almost every game.

The game has changed. Te fans who watch it have changed.. and none for the better in my opinion.

I've never been to any Skins stadium but FedEx so I dont know what it was like in the old days...

Having been to FedEx like 5x the fans suck.. like really suck. Eagles fans and Giants fans are about 1000x more engaged.

I had seats right behind Portis mom for a couple games. I've gone up to the club level pretty much every single game with a $20 to the 17 year old working "security guard" and people arent even watching the game. Its actually kind of funny.

Club level is like going to a high school debate team meeting with a football game playing in the background.
