On the other hand, I think the rules need to be changed to give points for a kick when it hits the crossbar. It's harder to hit the goal posts than put it between them.

I would go the other direction. I think football would be a better game if all field goals were only were 1 pt. They'd only be used in tie breaker situations. That would be much more exciting.

How about a regular field goal would be worth 1 point. Hit the crossbar and it is 2. Hit the crossbar and make the field goal at the same time would be worth 3.
