This is a game that could be great excitement for Broncos country but in the NFL landscape is an afterthought. If Drew Lock starts this game, and I think he will, this is the first look at a player some had us taking in the first round and ended up getting him with our second 2nd round pick. Neither of these teams lived up to expectations, but I think the Broncos are building a base toward a bright future while the Chargers are at a cross-roads. Below is where each team ranks going into the game:
Los Angles Chargers:
Offense:
Total: Ranks 13th with 363.6 yards per game.
Rushing:Ranks 26th with 86.7 yards per game.
Passing: Ranks 5th with 276.9 yards per game.
Scoring: Ranks 23rd with 20.4 points per game.

Defense:
Total: Ranks 5th with 317.5 yards per game.
Rushing: Ranks 20th with 112.3 yards per game.
Passing: Ranks 4th with 205.3 yards per game.
Scoring: Ranks 11th with 19.8 points per game.

Turnover differential: Ranks 28th with -9 turnover differential.

Denver Broncos:
Total: Ranks 27th with 302.8 yards per game.
Rushing: Ranks 16th with 110.5 yards per game.
Passing: Ranks 29th with 192.3 yards per game.
Scoring: Ranks 29th with 15.9 points per game.

Defense:
Total: Ranks 8th with 321.1 yards per game.
Rushing: Ranks 21st with 113.5 yards per game.
Passing: Ranks 5th with 207.5 yards per game.
Scoring: Ranks 9th with 19.7 points per game.

Turnover differential: Ranks tied for 21st with -2 turnover differential.

These teams are pretty evenly matched. I wish I could watch this game, but I will look forward to seeing the highlights (hopefully more highlights then low lights).

Sorry I was late getting this posted, but work has been pretty crazy this week.

One of the pleasures of watching the games is the rivalries that have grown over the years, and within these rivalries, the players we have come to, at best, enjoy beating .. and in my case with both Philip Rivers and Keenan Allen, really dislike ..

No matter where the teams are in the standings, I love games vs The Bolts as seeing these guys, esp Rivers, get frustrated is part of the fun .. and while I love seeing the Broncos get to Rivers, it seems as if time has finally caught up with him … He's tossed 7 INTs in the past two games, and while he was never to be confused with Lamar Jackson, he is now an absolute sitting duck … If we can somehow limit those short, quick passes, I think it could be a long day for Rivers ..

Force Rivers to throw downfield, and that is advantage Broncos ..

Chargers are 3-1 when running for over 100 yards .. They are 1-6 when held under 100 … If the Broncos can somehow get out to an early lead, I don't see a replay of the Vikings game .. We jumped out to a 17-0 lead last game vs The Bolts and the Lindsay/Freeman combo ran for 175 yds between the two of 'em … A repeat of that would go a long way to a sweep of the season ..

The Chargers and Rivers are actually in a bit of a situation as Rivers will be a free agent when the season ends, and the Chargers will be moving into their new stadium next season .. Do the Bolts give Rivers a multi-year deal if he continues to show signs of decline ?? … a loss vs the Broncos would give them 8 losses for the season, which would pretty much put the nail in any playoff hopes .

With all that said, I am very very excited to see what's in store for the future with Lock likely getting the nod .. Some points early would be perfect ..

.. in the last meeting a few weeks ago, after jumping out to a 17-0 lead, this is what the Broncos 2nd half looked like on offense:

- 3 plays, punt
- 4 plays, punt
- 5 plays, punt
- 3 plays, punt
- 3 plays, punt
- 2 plays, Flacco INT
- 3 plays, Flacco INT
- 3 plays, punt
- 11 plays, missed FG

.. and we still win the game

I want to see Lock not only start but give us a reason to get excited about him. It doesn’t need to be perfect just a small glimpse into what may be ahead once he’s refined a few things.

Also, win the game. This team needs to begin restoring a winning culture and you don’t do that by losing games. Winning games after you’re out of the hunt is a good place to start.

And this is why I really like Fangio. Yiadom was a physical man on man DB and in the short time we have had Fangio he has made Yaidom a better player in his system.

Development is key. this staff is going to rock if the OC will run the dam football!

Well Lock has looked as good as you could imagine in the first quarter, and then about what you’d expect the rest of the game.

Denver season summed up in a nutshell, 4th Qtr, 3rd & 12 and Daeshaun Hamilton drops a wide-open pass that would’ve guaranteed a first down.

Biggest takeaways, Lock looked comfortable, and our Offensive line gave up zero sacks.

Most importantly Lock didn’t look overwhelmed by the game. This is why I kept saying it’s important to get him playing now. By the time games matter again he’ll have made some vital adjustments to the speed of the game. It’s a 4-8 team already playing preseason for 2020.

Hey I was hoping for Lock to look great but we still lose to keep our killer draft position. There’s some anti-positivity for you.

Lock looked like gangbusters in the first quarter. And then the coaching staff basically took the ball out of his hand as if to say, “don’t lose this game now junior.”

This maybe the game we point back to as the turning point for this team. The Chargers had the momentum and tied the game with a FG. We take a chance with very little time left and came through to get the win.

I loved it. Sutton did a great job playing into a PI. That’s a 50-50 call on a Hail Mary like that, but given how two late penalties have given the Broncos opponents a shot for a game winner (one of those attempts after regulation expired) I’ll take it with no apology offered.
