I use some of this still today, reminds me of a time I was in Conn. with a friend, he took me to an antique store, there was an FBI agent there shopping my friend and the owner of the store knew. She kept looking at me strangely and staring every time I talked. Finally she asked me "where are you from"? I detect a hint of
Appalachia, and a touch of southern draw. I proudly told her I was from West Virginia. That was the first time, I realized my heritage was showing so much. I'm proud of it.

Love it, my family moved to the midwest for a few years and while there an elementary school teacher tried to put my sister in speech therapy because she couldnt always understand what my sister was saying.
During the eval the therapist wrinkled her face and said “she doesn't have a speech impediment, she has a southern accent”
Ol yankee teacher was sooooo embarrassed.
