or... "Brock Trotters off to the desert"

The Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Petteri Nokelainen and defenceman Garrett Stafford from the Phoenix Coyotes on Sunday in exchange for forward Brock Trotter and a seventh-round draft pick.

Canadiens acquire Nokelainen, Stafford from Coyotes

4 line penalty killer and a journeyman AHL defenseman is exactly what the Habs need

I was resigning myself to the fact that this is going to be a long season for the Habs, but now I am super terrifically more optimistic.

What's with all of these blockbuster trades lately? Usually they don't happen until teams see if they are in the playoff run. :becky:

Maybe things will turn around Comeds. The Habs should be better than their record. I saw a poll on TSN the other day who is to blame for the slow start, The coach, GM or underachieving plays. Number three had the most votes.

The players are the easiest to point fingers at and they have not been great but I still think its the coach and his system that doesnt fit the type of players he has.

With Muller gone there is supposed to be a much greater lack of communication between the players and coach. And Marin changes lines so often or has people players playing out of position so often its hard for the players to know their roles or develop any chemistry. Some writer last week wrote this about Martin:

Much has been made about the Canadiens' lack of identity. Perhaps it's simpler than that players, even beyond Cole, seem to be unaware of their role on the team. Line combinations are sometimes changed after every shift centers play wing, defenseman play forward.

It's not a chess match. In the mind of the coach, he is playing checkers with equal, interchangeable pieces. And it's clear he is no master.

There has been no opportunity for chemistry to develop and seemingly precious little communication about expectations. The result is confusion and chaos. The best example of this was the Canadiens home opener where the bench gate was a turnstile, and the Habs struggled to complete a pass.

I agree, its a mess right now because of Martin as much or more than anything else.

I don't understand why the Habs signed Eric Cole. The only place he's ever kicked butt is with Carolina. I know they wanted to add some size, but I just don't think he fits. We'll see as the season goes on.

The Yotes could have thrown in a first rounder and I would still give them a slight edge in this one.

It'll all be okay when they sign Jack Johnson.
