I would never give Simmonds a chance in the shootout. He's just not that kind of player. Put him in front of the net on the power play and he gets the job done, but shootout? Not a chance. I'd have given Voracek, Hartnell, Schenn, and Couturier (perhaps even Timonen or Talbot) all a shot way before I'd even think of Simmonds.

That said, our fucking goalie needs to stop a shot sooner or later. G can't do it all himself.

I know, I know...but at least he can fucking shoot the puck. He had already beaten Thomas thrice that game. I know he still can't skate, but I'd march him out there way before Simmonds regardless.

I'm also a believer in sending out the hot hands for the shootout, especially while minus Briere and Jagr. Hartnell and Talbot would've qualified in that case.

If everyone is healthy, I probably send out G, Briere and Jagr. With the roster we had on sunday, I'd have probably sent out G, Voracek and Talbot. Read wasn't a poor choice, but he is still a rookie and probably has very little experience in those situations.

Send Briere, G and Jagr out for shootouts. It's that fucking simple. Don't mess with it unless you're substituting Voracek for Jagr. If we don't get the results we're looking for, keep sending them out. They are our best shot at winning.

If we send out G tonight instead of Simmonds, we could've technically ended up winning it if G, Voracek and Jagr score with Bryz stopping a couple shots. It's not very likely, but this is a precious fucking point we're dealing with here, you might as well put your best foot forward to get it. The Islanders sure as fuck did. They send out Nielsen (57.1%) and Tavares, who is no slouch at anything offensive. We don't even give G a chance when he's operating at 50% himself this season.
