Pirates pitcher Ross Ohlendorf won his salary arbitration hearing today and will be paid $2,025,000 this coming season.

The Pirates had argued that his salary should be $1.4 million.

The case went to arbitration after the Pirates and Ohlendorf, 28, could not agree to terms. He earned $439,000 last season.

Ohlendorf had a 1-11 record with a 4.07 ERA in 108 1/2 innings last season. He was on the disabled list twice, once with a back injury and then with muscle strain in his right shoulder.



Ok, so you win 1 game and quadruple your salary??? No wonder why i gave up on the Pirates in 1995.

Actually this wasn't that bad. Ollie was NEVER given more than 3 runs of production from his offense in his first 20 starts. I think it was a few 100k over priced, but sadly in the MLB that's chump change.

**DISCLAIMER** I'm an optimist in this situation.

I fully believe the Pirates are only a few years and a few FA away from being contenders. Seriously. And we hate Ramierez because the guy exploded once he went to the Cubs. And he's the perfect representation of the suckyness of our situation. Traded for nothing because he got too expensive.
