Staal is in, but Martin is a GTD. And Fleury's in net (Oi vey). They have to be careful about pushing Flower this week. 5 games in 7 days, Beej is gonna have to play some time.

Here's your surprising stat of the day - Penguins haven't beaten the Capitals in a regular season game on their home ice since December 27, 2007.

We need to keep our points up so we can draw Pittsburgh in the first round.

Not extremely related, but I think my Mother is trying to give me a heart attack. She sent this text: "word from a couple sources that crosby has a cracked skull...also had bleeding in the brain...and will not be back this season and most likely never. awful news if true."
Now, I debunked her quickly, but GAH, don't just SEND me that. I'd sob. And her sources are the rich old people she works for, she said they knew high ups in the Pens org. I really wish the Pens would either shut him down or tell us more. This rumor crap will only get worse.

I've been impressed with the way the Pens have played through the injuries. Sterling has been a nice surprise. Defense & Fleury are definately key. The Pens have found a way to get it done even without Malkin & Crosby. I really didn't think they had the depth to do it.

I in no way mean to upset or bother you, but I have heard some other stuff about the injury being more severe than "just" a concussion. This is not to say that a concussion alone is not bad. However, I have heard nothing on the level of a fractured skull or cranial bleeding. If that had been the case he would not have been able to do the interview a couple weeks ago and he would have no hair. They have to immediately open the skull in that instance. I have however heard, and would not be surprised that he may have a significant neck injury (not life or career threatening). You have small processes that come off of your axial vertebrate that can break off and cause severe pain. I have heard that mentioned and small hairline fracturs of the outside of his vertebra as possible second injuries. My sources are pretty good as well.

I really hope this doesn't happen, but I could see this truning ugly because of the past 2 games and what has happend in them:

Steckel hit on Crosby

Followed by Steckle having to fight Wallace (call it whatever you want Steckel had to fight someone because of the hit)

And On top, the Cooke hit on OV

All this together could cause some things that really shouldn't be, happen. Like I said, really hope it doesn't happen but I see a better chance of it than I did before the Isles-Pens game.....

Vertebral process, yeah. But that's just a season ender, not even CLOSE to career ending. And trust me, that was my response to my mom. She emailed me what her co-worker had sent her and my response was this:
"I'm telling you it's not true. And, as I stated in my overly long text, if those are the injuries it's not a career ending thing. Repetitive concussions and brain damage are, but minor brain bleeding or a cracked skull are just long recoveries. Unless this lady knows a trainer who mouthed off, Ray Shero, or Mario Lemieux, I don't believe it. Also, a cracked skull would NOT happen when you look at the mechanism of his injuries. *Goes into geek mode* A concussion can occur from any motion which causes the brain to slide against the skull...think of it like a brain bruise. In Sid's case, the first hit he took was a "whiplash mechanism", which is what also caused him to have neck pain. The second hit was more of a compression mechanism, in which his face was smushed against the boards. NEITHER of those would lead to a cracked skull unless the guy has osteoporosis. I trust your co-worker knows someone, and that they said something, but this is just the typical overreaction that occurs when a high profile player is out for a significant period of time. There is a possibility that this injury will affect Sid's career going forward (in fact, I guarantee it will), but it's not due to the things listed there. Bleeding in the brain is an acute injury (it can become chronic, but we're talking about people in severe car accidents, or brutally beat) and is taken care of surgically by a burr hole, which Sid didn't have done. If Sid didn't have this surgery (which would've DEFINITELY gotten out into the media, especially Canada), then he didn't have brain bleeding. I could believe someone saying that he's being shutdown for the year due to concussive symptoms, but because I can easily debunk the reported injuries, which kills the credibility of the report. Sorry, I'm passionate about this stuff I guess."

I may not be an expert on this stuff, but I've spent every day of my last 2 years learning about this type of stuff. I mean, my future profession is this stuff exactly, so I'm just debunking left and right. The co-worker lady seemed so confident, but come on.

And a fx of the vertebral process would make sense looking at his hits, but if it WERE that, there'd be no question of his status, he'd be out for the season, and I don't think the organization would tease the players/fans/etc.

It would only be the fans, i'm sure the players/coaches know every single detail on whats really going on with Crosby. I highly doubt he has anything THAT serious going though.

I posted a bit ago the rumor my brother told me about his spine being injured... I forget what the exact wording was... and it could be a career ender... not that my brother has connections, he is a detective for the city so he does have some contacts I suppose, and he never plays the rumor game, so I put a little stock into what he said... until I heard Sid speak after returning from his 'vacation'... he was in good spirits, voice sounded upbeat, and it reassured me that he woudl be OK. I would be surprised if he came back this year, just like i would be surprised if his career was over... I think it's safe to say this year is done though.

I haven't paid much attention to the rumor mill on this, but here's my general disposition on these types of things. If it was serious enough that is way beyond a concussion (brain bleed, skull fracture, spinal, etc.), he would have to make multiple trips to a hospital and that would mean people would see him, treat him, etc. and it would get out and be reported in the mainstream media. So until that happens, I still think concussion is totally believable as it has different effects on different people.

All that said, I don't think we're going to see Crosby again this year, or if we do, I think it will be a shadow of the runaway Hart train we saw earlier this season.

Agreed. If he comes back (I still think he'll be back later on), it'll still be the new Sid. He won't get back to where he was for another year (or ever).
