And why is he is stop gap coach? Is it because of his age? I am sure Mike Tomlin and the Steelers would agree with you also about Dick LeBeau.
The whole age argument makes no sense. You do realize that Phillips is 4 years older than Pete Carroll and 5 years older than Belichick right?
Say what?
Losing McVay made us worse, but losing Barry didn't?
They're coordinators. McVay did pretty well, but he also called a fuckload of wr fades in the endzone even though they NEVER work, and are a low percentage play to begin with (unless you have Megatron).
Look: McVay might be a GREAT head coach, or a terrible head coach. Most great coordinators do NOT end up to be great head coaches.
It's the unknown dudes that come in and shock the NFL, not the known quantities.
Phillips was never here, so we didn't lose anything by him going to the rams.
IMO, losing them both hurts. In Barry's case it looks like the players liked him, but he was just stubborn and sucked on 3rd down. With a couple more above average/elite players i think he could have become solid.
McVay hurts because its likely he could have taken over for Gruden, and improved in his red zone woes.
Something that i BET he'll be more efficient in with an above average RB. I have a feeling McVay will have the Rams in the playoffs, year 2
