Lance McAlister at WLW had a blog interview with Votto on Friday.
It's mostly what you'd expect but it's interesting, all the same.

Here's the link.

Votto should probably invest in a public speaking class. I would guess that he can probably afford it...It's painful listening to him stammer his way through incoherence.

Dunno ... I've been interviewed before and sometimes there were so many thoughts on my tongue, it's tough. As much as I rehearsed what I'd say, it was still sometimes ... a blank spot.

He was honest- said he knew the knee wasn't right and he wouldn't drive the ball as well, do he adjusted to get on base as much as possible. I don't have a problem with anything Votto did- he didn't play great D, if drive in 100, but he is still the best hitter the Reds have. Get a 2 hitter in front of him, and he easily drives in 100.

If people want to point scapegoat fingers at hitters, Votto should be the last player on their list.

The frustration over the lineup and the every-other-guy-is-an-out made Votto's season look bad for a couple of reasons.

The main one was that Votto realized that somebody had to be on base.

The other reason is that pitchers were aware of it.

In glad Dusty is gone. He wasn't the whole problem, but he didnt make anything better, and probably made a few things worse. I hate the last 3 years were somewhat wasted by his constipation, but we can only look forward now. The winter deals worry me some, because I don't think the Reds can compete with what they have, less Choo.

If the message that Phillips is on the block, that suggests something of a change in overall strategy.
Honestly, I don't see that the Reds have a leadoff guy yet or a dependable cleanup hitter, unless that's Bruce.
Which means Votto is going to hit 2nd if he has no power or 3rd if he does and there's still an out or two at the top of the order.

Hamilton isn't ready, according to everybody.
