Hearing Vance Joseph to Cardinals is very likely to happen.

Well good for him. I wish him well after he gives us 3 more great games! And then at least we get those 2 3rd round comp picks to work with. going to be interesting who from the staff he takes with him and what Payton/Paton do to replace these guys. We haven't lost many guys over the last 3 seasons. New territory with the pairing of Payton/Paton. Not truly new for them, but as a pair.

Too bad for VJ that so many other good coaches ended up on the market. I hope he does well, if he goes to Arizona but that organization is a desert in the desert.

Jim Leonhard has interviewed for a couple of D coordinators jobs this past week. Most recently the Jets.

I just hope assuming we do lose VJ, which looks expected, to lessen the blow it isn't too late to hire Leonhard as our next DC.

Losing Joseph will suck, he has been an elite D coordinator. However, to soften the blow at least we get the comp picks and if we can obtain Leonhard as our next D cord then at least we have that.

Coordinators come and go as you have to expect it. To get 3 years of VJ is pretty cool. One more wouldn't hurt but can't get greedy.

Also, Evero has interviewed for some HC jobs. Doubt he gets one but would be cool to see him eventually get one. I wouldn't expect it this year with Carolina's D sorta being up and down.

Hopefully we told Leonhard to hold up in case Vance signs with someone

I feel like Joseph has a good idea if Arizona is hiring him (At least from what I am told) if that is the case you would think Leonhard and us have talked about "Hey VJ is leaving" who knows but I hope there is good communication to keep him around. Who knows maybe Arizona has that one last interview that will blow them away.

Arizona wants VJ after last month of D play? I'm more concerned about losing Webb

Perhaps they are not narrow minded and have looked at what VJ has done over the past 3 years? How he has built players into what they are today? Perhaps they also understand that he doesn't play defense, so much is also out of his control? Perhaps the have looked at the growth of players under him? Teams dig a lot deeper then points put up on a scoreboard the last month of the season. Do teams really hire coaches over 1 month of football?

Even if they do

26 points (2 turnovers) vs a decent Packers offense
34 points to one of the better offenses in the NFL Jaguars (10 of these can be contributed to the offense) not a great game on D
13 to the Chiefs (Sure backup QB but you can't count that as a negative vs VJ they still only gave up 13 points and don't win this game without good defense)
3 to the Chargers (Sure backup QB but you can't count that as a negative vs VJ they still only gave up 3 points and don't win this game without good defense)
30 Bills (Surely not a great D but still we don't win this game without the defense creating 4 turnovers)

Sure, we have seen much better under our defense then the last month of the season but let's not downplay watch VJ has done for this team over the last 3 seasons. Look, there is a reason why nearly every NFL team is giving Vance Joseph an interview and it isn't because of the Rooney rule either... All but 2 teams so far have given multiple African American coaches an interview. Not claiming VJ will be a great HC. A big part of me thinks he is a great DC and maybe not a great HC but he has earned the right for the opportunity that is for sure.

I like Davis Webb too but can I ask why you are concerned? What about Davis Webb has you so concerned? I like him too.

I think fans need to come to the understanding over assistant coaches a bit... Assistant coaches come and go. That is expected and a good thing. We want Payton to build his coaching tree here. That makes us successful. Good assistant coaches aren't going to hang around at a single team for long. We cant expect that.

The thing about VJ is that he's a proven player developer. Probably not the best at scheme and game plan adjustments.

I think the issue is that he won't be able to have as much development time as a HC, which diminishes his value as a coach. Maybe he's learned some tricks from Payton in his time here, but the things that made him a good DC won't be as prevalent in his role as HC. Maybe he coaches his staff. Maybe he has a project player or two. But to me his best role is a DC. I think he's run out of Zona in a few years.

You know what would be pefect?

He signs his contract with the Cardinals. We get the comp picks. They fire him after 1 year, he returns to us. ;)

I do wish him the best as a HC and hope he does well if it does become official but I would never turn down a return if it didn't go well.

Meh, by then we'll be on our 3rd superbowl and no need for a new DC.

From what I understand Leonard isn't the only in house option the Broncos like for the DC job if that is the direction they go.

Another nice thing is because so many coaching changes it means a lot of coordinators are on the market right now. If an in house option leaves it is not like Payton doesn't have a ton of connections with guys all over the league to bring in a good staff.

I think there are two guys I hope we don't lose but looks like we will at least lose one of them. Webb is one. He has done a good job of communicating with our QB's and they seem to trust and like him a lot. Problem in Denver is Payton will never give up play calling. So Webb's growth is a bit limited here. Zach Streif is the other. Our OL has been incredible since he got to town. I would hate to lose him.

Source of mine is saying VJ and the Broncos advancing may cost him the Cardinals job as a new top candidate has emerged.

Anthony Campanile.

Take it for what it is worth.

If Rizzi gets a HC job (which I doubt) but he has interviewed for 2 now... I would really like to bring Chris Banjo back. I have known Banjo since his playing days at SMU. Nobody works harder.. Was with us as an assistant 2 years ago and was the Jets ST coach last year. Payton loves him as he played for him. Guessing Rizzi will be fine here though.

Told someone the other day the further the Broncos make it into the playoffs the less likely it is that we lose anyone from our coaching staff. Teams start to panic when other coaches are getting hired that they like and start thinking what would happen if we wait and then that coach makes the decision they don't want this job? Or the staff they would want to put together would already have been scooped up by other staffs.

I honestly think part of what helped the Chiefs all these years is they advanced so far every playoffs that teams just didn't want to wait. If they had lost earlier they would have lost a couple of key coaches.

Broncos make the Super Bowl it wouldn't shock me if VJ is still here. The one I think is gone almost no matter what is Webb.
