VJ Interviews and Head Coach Opportunities

Looks like Bronocs QB coach Davis Webb is getting an interview with the Raiders.

I'm a little frustrated with the schedule VJ has for his interviews. Happy he is getting them, but he has 1 scheduled for today with the Titans, 2 tomorrow with Giants and Raiders, and then 1 on Friday when they are supposed to be having practice for the Cardinals. Now I'm sure the interview isn't during the actual practice window, but still players will be back in the building and would rather VJ be locked in from the moment players are back until our game.

With Miami now getting in on the looking for a head coach it is hard to think VJ doesn't get an offer from someone. I think the only way he stays if he decides the opportunity isn't right for him and he would rather wait. Ben Johnson did that a couple of years ago where teams wanted to interview him, but he didn't like the choices.

McDaniel hung 70 points on VJ's defense 2 years ago and, this offseason, could get replaced by Joseph. Funny bit of irony if that happens.

It really is amazing how quickly things change in the NFL. One moment you are the NFL darling and the next you are fired.

This Broncos' staff. Couple of years ago not many would have been asking to interview any of our guys. Now we have Rizzi, VJ, and Webb interviewing elsewhere and a good chance a few others that leave for promotions.

The Rizzi interview is odd as our special teams haven't been great outside of Lutz and the occasional Mimms return. I guess he is well respected in the league and did have the stint as interim head coach.

I guess the one thing he can point to is yes the unit started out terrible, but as the season progressed we have seen them become a strength.

And still might not be done with openings. Wouldn't shock me if Bills lose to us this weekend if McDermett is still on the chopping block. And now that Tomlin is out there you might see a couple of other teams call him and see if he would be willing to come on down.

At this point with so many openings it is hard to see how Joseph doesn't take a job. It will be more like Ben Johnson a couple of years ago turning down jobs because they didn't look like great opportunities for early success.

Joseph wasn’t Payton’s first choice for DC. He’ll find another good one.

That said, the odds of Joseph getting a HC gig are unknown. Does he even want that headache? He’s been there before. Maybe he likes the current gig. Time will tell.

The nice thing with so many openings when it comes to coaches getting fired is that means there are a lot of staffs with guys available. I don't think Payton is going to have any trouble finding guys that want to come to Denver for work. If Joseph gets a HC gig and then Webb gets an OC job and I would guess a couple of others will get nice promotions Payton will be able to point to his history of getting guys paid and big promotions.
