Wow. What happened to Oklahoma's coach? I figured only an SEC school could steal Hughes away. I wonder what Oklahoma offered him? Weaver probably didn't even make a counter offer....figured he'd just promote within....does VT have a director of baseball operations?.....bet he's next in line to become head coach.

Bummer. We seem to be hit or miss with coaching, which really hurts the gains that are made in non-revs. I'm afraid baseball will join that group. I have little faith we'll make a good hire, although there is plenty of coaching talent in our geographic area that could use a promotion. We'll see, I guess.

Yes and yes. It also makes our other athletic programs more of a joke. This is why we are not a very sexy add to other conferences (athletic perspective only - not talking about academics). That's great we have a pretty damn good football program, but significant investments in money and time need to be spent in other areas as well.

Not until 2015...if its up to him. I've heard his health doesn't allow him to fullfil half his job requirements. Hopefully the new president comes in and makes some immediate changes.

It's not enough to develop a great coach. You have to keep him. Then again, Weaver has managed to keep Beamer happy.

Apparently, Oklahoma offered $350k....$200k more than what he was getting paid at VT. And Hughes told Weaver his mind was already made up. Sounds like VT didn't stand a chance of keeping him.

Oklahoma sent Hughes family to Norman in Toby Keith's personal jet?!?!?

VT obviously doesn't have the same fan support for baseball, but I bet if we strung together more than one successful season the fans would come. Weaver never gives the non-revenue sports enough time to succeed to gain the fan support.
