Venus reaching the women's final at Wimby shows how pathetic

The women's era is regarding competition. This current era has no good rivalries with the wolf being among the sheep for the slaughter pretty much. Unlike the men's where anyone can lose to up and coming players on a daily basis. Serena winning 23 slams is largely due to her nonsense of a rivalry with her elder sister who contributed to a chunky bulk of her slam count with all the finals they played which Serena won. Given the above scenario it's surprising Serena didn't win more slams by now. The competition was so bad that the sisters had to take detours in fashion and movies to keep awake.

Venus won the 2001 US Open and 2008 Wimbledon Finals against Serena.

She also won the 2nd round of the 1998 USO, SF of 2000 Wimbledon, and 4th round of the 2005 USO against Serena.

I agree there aren't good rivalries right now. Davenport, Capriati, Clijsters, Henin was the last great crop of contenders.

I don't think Azarenka matches up well with Serena.

But I don't think you can take away from Venus, because she played great tennis.

If Pliskova, Kvitova, or Kerber could meet Serena a few more times in majors, that could be something. But they don't meet much.

I also thought Li Na matched up well, but they didn't really meet the last few years of Li's career.
