Actually "vegas" is very high on getting people to bet for or against the lines that are set so that they can make money. They don't make money on who wins or loses or care, the more money that is bet the more "they" win.

Odds don't reflect how any football knowledgeable think the season is going to turn out, they are set initially by people that are calculating how people that bet will bet and then are adjusted based on how people actually do bet.

Peyton won more games last season, in spite of missing an entire year of football, than the entire rest of the afc west combined. It makes you look intelligent to make such comments.

They were interviewing a Vegas sportsbook on Seattle sports radio today. Some very interesting things came out.

1). More money was bet on the Seahawks winning the SB over the summer than the rest of the NFL teams COMBINED. Wow.

2). The reason you didn't see the Seahawks odds knocked down at all after the Harvin announcement is he said there are only, at the most 12 players in the NFL, outside the starting QBs, that would influence these odds to move with an announcement of an injury that would keep them out half or all the season. He said they look for "concentration hits by important position". Like the Pats TE situation. With Gronk questionable, when the Hernandez thing happened, Pats did drop in odds.

3). He called them the preseason "refrigerator bets". That heavy SB winner bets always occur over the summer. The bets you make, then stick the bet ticket on the fridge hoping it will pay off in Feb and brag about that bet all season long. He said the 15 - 25 to 1 bets can be a smart tactic because many NFL teams that had those odds during the summer did end up winning the SB over the past decade and pay well. Semi-long shots, but respectable ones. Anyone approaching 25 to 1 or higher to win it all. Massive longshots.
