Reid's in a boot, Webster may start the season hurt, Ebron didn't practice yesterday and Van Noy may go on IR. So much for Mayhews Crystal Ball. Second season is really starting to pick up where the first one left off for the 2014 draft class....

Van Noy has not been impressive, but hard to tell what he can do if he is not healthy. He may be on borrowed time soon.

He was 2nd string in camp anyways. Tough to miss someone when they have shown you nothing since being drafted by the team.

Really sucks -- He was a guy I wanted the Lions to get and was happy we drafted him. He has been a disaster thus far though.

Sucks for the Lions. He was healthy in college. Now he might be a Broyles.

Just as I'm not as worried about Warford hobbling with Manny in town. I'm not that worried missing Van Noy. Bynes filled in decent IMO in his absence last year. I still would like to see what Van Noy has to offer.

whitehead was on a similar boat for a while, his first 2 years being banged up not contributing all that, now starter. i am disappointed in van noy so far but he still has a chance

This guy has proved nothing to earn a roster spot, other than being a 2nd round pick.

Yep- we got depth at the position, so he's able to get healed and develop with any pressure to get back in the starting line-up..

Webster starting to look like a wasted pick too:

Detroit Lions can't count on DE Larry Webster this season

I just got finished posting that the other day. He looks like nothing special right now. I was one who was extremely high on him until I saw him play. He should be headed back to the PS.

Ziggy, JJ, Devin, and 2 of Wooton, Tapp and Hunt will stick unless something changes drastically. Will be interesting to see, but Hunt may be the odd guy out. I hope not though.

He wasn't on the practice squad last year. Being a 4th round pick makes it hard to get him through waivers and onto the p-squad...

Ansah, Jones, Taylor, and Tapp are all locks, imo, with Wooton, Hunt, and Webster all in the mix for the 5th DE spot...

They have about half dozen non-active roster spots if they choose to use one on him. I would rather keep Wooton and Hunt at this juncture. I love what I have seen from Hunt. Wooton is a solid backup.

Looks like he returned to practice today, so concerns of IR appear to be overblown.

I wanted VanNoy so bad when drafted. I find it frustrating that he's been injured and has had a difficult time catching up all the while missing so much in practice last year and now again.

I'm still hopeful that he can recover and pickup the schemes and make some type of impact this year. I'll give him a break until the end of his 3rd year but my patience is wearing thin even now. He was my guy for 2nd round, even with the trade up and losing that 4th round pick last year to get him.

I agree with you. I'd keep Hunt and Wootton as my 3rd & 4th. If you keep a 5th, it'd probably be Taylor. But I've been more impressed with Wootton than Taylor or Tapp. And Hunt has to be a lock at this point.

It is tough to cut Tapp because he has been a leader on the team and great in the locker room, but there are only so many spots and he did not have a great preseason

Van Noy actually played and looks very quick out there. Maybe some signs of hope yet for him.

I thought so too. He looked like he belonged out there and was actually standing out against 3rd stringers out there. He looked faster and more fluid than the other guys on a lot of plays.

Nice to actually see some encouraging play out of him after a year+ of injuries and tentative play on the field...
