So far, so good! They are in the Top 10 (#7) in SOS per this original posting in the thread and still have LSU, Georgia and Alabama to play. I think they might stay in the SOS Top 10!

You’re probably spot on.

some of you have your sec glasses on a little to tight...
lol -- maybe you sec fan(s) do need to take that logic class over at a$m -- lol

...I would have to check (working from memory) -- but to date, Alabama has not played one team who presently is in the top 25

... Alabama has beat 2 teams with present day winning records (Duke 4-3 in the Coastal Conference and Southern Miss. Golden Eagles 4-3 over in Conference USA...
...All of the other teams Bama has played, presently have losing records... which indicates they haven't played any real top tier teams yet.

Doesn't look like a top 25 sos schedule to me. It doesn't even look like a middle of the road sos … Presently their sos is around 80th-90th in the Nation... to state other-wise is just ignoring the facts and reality.

Speaking of ignoring reality...

Let's examine that for a moment. let's pick the actual teams that Sagarin gives an sos in the middle of that range, say 84-86. Those teams would be:

84 Nevada; Schedule: Purdue, Oregon, Weber St, UTEP. Hawaii, San Jose St, Utah State
85 Temple; Schedule: Bucknell, Maryland, Buffalo, Georgia Tech, East Carolina, Memphis, SMU,
86 Bowling Green; Schedule: Morgan State, Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, Kent St, Toledo, Central Michigan.

As opposed to

Duke, New Mexico St, Southern Miss, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Tennessee.

Alabama's schedule has more P5 teams on it than all 3 combined. Nevada at least had a decent ranked team on it, but they got boat raced 77-6.

Alabama is currently at 52...which is low for a P5 team because our schedule is shitty and rear loaded, but pretending it is a middling G5 schedule is a level of retard only a Texas fan could achieve. Congrats on being #19, and escaping that Kansas Juggernaut.

2 of the vaunted P5 teams lost three games versus G5 opponents. P5 isn't automatically better.

FYI

Bowling Green also played Notre Dame.

Don’t know if Sagarin left that out, or if you just forgot to type it.

Losing battle because?

Because the logic you are using is going to lead you into an intellectual beatdown. I worry that you won't even realize it's happening as the other posters erupt into laughter.

Not the least bit worried since the other posters think identity and perception determines value in objective systems. They also think objective SOS is about schedule difficulty. But again, propping up a P5 team with two losses to G5 teams simply because it is P5 is a weak position.

Ultimately, I'm not making any claims about which teams are better and which schedules are more difficult. The point is that a G5 schedule can be more valuable than a P5 schedule based on the success of the opponents played and the criteria used.

Consider that a computer doesn't know what a P5 conference is or a G5 conference. Yet the overwhelming majority of P5 teams have better SOS numbers in the computer rankings. How do you explain that?

Because they have greater success and win more often than G5 teams and I assume winning is of great importance or should be. The point here is when they don't have greater success or win more often, they don't still get more value for their results just because they are P5.

They don't. They get more value for playing a tougher schedule.

Does that include all games because 33rd to date is insane?

I have no idea, but that’s possible.

They have Baylor’s SOS as 73rd and Oklahoma’s at 66nd, but the Strength of Record indicates that staying undefeated this far into the season is more difficult with Baylor’s schedule.

so, basically these ESPN created numbers are a hot mess.

I agree, but either way, the teams with the toughest schedules are usually the teams that lose a lot. I know all about that as an Iowa State fan! lol. Now, that ISU is doing better, our SOS has declined. :) So, if you see a really good team with a really tough SOS, that is interesting. For example, Auburn. Beware of Auburn! :D
We should be #1 in SOS! :gaah:

Yeah, no one on the committee is going to use that.
