IRVING -- The Dallas Cowboys have signed 14 undrafted rookie free agents now that the draft is over.

The Cowboys began to put their list together just after the draft ended. They will have an official list finalized soon, but several players -- or their colleges -- made it known Saturday night that they have joined the Cowboys.

Among the players who have already committed to joining the Cowboys (See the list below in the chart) includes the nation's leading tackler from a year ago and a high-flying receiver.

The Cowboys have added Jacksonville State receiver Andy Jones, who has a 41.5-inch vertical jump. The Cowboys also signed Notre Dame receiver Chris Brown (6-1, 195), who started alongside Will Fuller with the Irish. Brown caught 48 passes for 597 yards and four touchdowns last year.

Two of the players who have signed with the Cowboys were among the 29 players who the club had come into Valley Ranch for a pre-draft visit: Norfolk State linebacker Deon King and Akron defensive tackle Rodney Coe. King led all NCAA football teams last year with 163 tackles.

The Cowboys also added UT-San Antonio defensive end Jason Neill, who played high school football at Flower Mound Marcus and attended Dallas Day (the Cowboys' annual local prospects workout).

Another intriguing player the Cowboys has added is speedy Northwestern State receiver Ed Eagan (5-11, 192), who is also a standout kick returner. He finished as the school's all-time leader in career receptions (177), receiving yards (2,228), all-purpose yards (5,651) and kickoff returner yards (2,922). Eagan was on the North team at the Senior Bowl this year that was coached by the Cowboys staff.

The Cowboys also added Michigan State cornerback Arjen Colquhoun, who is from Canada. Colquhoun is from the same hometown (Windsor, Ontario) as Cowboys starting three-technique defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford.

I think just someone asking this question (as dumb as it sounds on it's surface) sums up how much of a  taking Gathers was:

LEW MCCONNELL
GERMANTOWN, MD

Why wouldn't Rico Gathers be considered a project at defensive end instead of tight end? Seems as though with his size and mental toughness and aggressiveness being so raved about, he may play best there. If they're going to take this risk, why not?

Nick: And this is a project pick so all of that might be considered. Right now, he’s a big-bodied player that will start out at tight end. From there, defensive end could be considered. Last year, the Cowboys looked at Efe Obada at tight end for about three hours. The next day he was at defensive end. So who knows what happens with Gathers but I think his skill set, combined with his soft hands and jumping ability will allow him to start off at tight end.

Bryan: Because the history of this conversion has worked better when taking a basketball player and making him a tight end than a defensive end. You might think of Julius Peppers, but he was a defensive end in college and played basketball on the side. I don’t believe Gathers will struggle with the blocking aspect here; it’s how he is getting off the line that will be the problem.

Is there even a chance this guy makes the 53 this year? I was wondering why even draft him at all, even if we liked him. The second we cut him to add him to our PS, another team (with a worse roster) could cut their lowest hanging fruit to sign him for a week or two to cut him to add to their PS. Just as certain I felt that Dallas would draft him, I am just as certain this will happen. There are only two ways I see it breaking different: if the kid outplays someone for a spot (not likely) or if he gets one of those mysterious injuries that put him on IR so we can essentially red-shirt him.

No, he won't make the 53. No, I don't think another team will put him on their active roster, but if they do who cares. Dumb move. The team talks about how all these picks are so valuable and then throws one away.:2cents:

Probably. At 6'8'', 275, I could see a scenario, where if he showed progress, he could be carried and used in some goal line sets. At his size, he should be able to help combo block in a short space, and he would be an easy target on short jump balls with the defense keying on Dez, Elliott and Witten. He will get straight man, and if Romo just throws it up, it would be hard to defend

Sure...but can he even play football??? He would be our 4th TE. Needs to be able to play STs. Needs to know how to block. Can he catch with a helmet on and in traffic? I'd love it if this kid works out, but I think J Smith has a better chance of seeing the field in 2016:2cents:

I have seen the guy play basketball plenty. I know it is two totally different sports but he was about as mean and nasty as it gets on College Bball. I'm thinking more 6'6 250.

I know he is a very good athlete. Great rebounders usually have good hands. I don't mind it at all

I'll tell ya what, looking at he video and pics from the rookie mini camp, we've added some good looking athletes if nothing else. Big and fast is always a nice combo to work with in the NFL
