Tony Banks says Bruce Smith and Darrell Green prompted dissension on the 2001 Redskins

Jeremiah Trotter recalls the time he knocked out LaVar Arrington

Not sure if anyone knew about these two stories, but they were, for the most part, surprising to me. The stuff about Bruce Smith not liking Marty's disciplinarian ways was something I could see happening, but the other stuff, especially the fight between Lavar and Trotter was eye-opening.

NO shock and nothing to see here. Bruce and Green not liking Marty was rather obvious. And the Lavar Trotter thing did make a blip on the radar not long ago. Word at the time was Trotter caught him with a sucker punch, well placed.. but a semi bitch move none the less. Worst part is, if that team could have removed head from ass in either of those situations, they were talented enough to actually do something more than be a laughing stock.

Cali posted the Lavar/Trotter story two or three days ago. It was also on every major sports feed. I ran into it on ESPN or CBS before reading it here.

The Bruce Smith and Darrell Green thing was well known also. Not that Schottenheimer wasn't right but he came in after Green had been here for over 15 years and wanted him to change his footwork. Smith didn't like the Oklahoma drill, among other things.

My apologies for repeating what was previously posted a few days ago. I really shouldn't be surprised at what happened back then, but it somehow always still carries some shock value. Trotter would've been great had we allowed him to do what he was good at, which was being aggressive at the point of attack. But that clashed with what Marvin Lewis wanted him to do and Trotter was on his way out as a FA bust. Thank God we're not doing that type of thing anymore and that other teams like Philly are signing FAs to fat contracts that don't pan out (e.g., Byron Maxwell, DeMarco Murray).

No need to apologize. It wasn't a main thread, just tossed into one of the ongoing threads.

Agree, thank god we are not signing free agents the way we used to. I think of that old movie line often when it comes to signing FAs "choose wisely ..."

During that time Snyder was the owner (during a time when he was at his worst), Vinny was the GM & Spurrier was the coach. Has there ever been a worse combination in the history of the NFL? Nuff said.
