Gretzky not being #1 is a huge snub.

Kovalev being higher then Datsyuk is a complete joke.

Forsberg not being on the list is also a mistake.


But for the most part those players were all electrifying in their own way and deserve some sort of recognition.

It is funny to think in 10-15 years that Ovi will be top 3 if not 2nd behind Gretzky as the best players of all time.

Forsberg had all the talent, but his constant diving and embellishing not to mention his injury history probably have tarnished his legacy looking back at it.

I think they were talking purely physical talent. In terms of God given physical ability, I think you could argue that Gretzky doesn't even belong on the top ten list. He wasn't the greatest skater, he didn't have the softest hands, he didn't have the hardest shot, he was just a fucking genius. That's why Kovalev is higher than Datsyuk, because in terms of raw talent Kovalev is more skilled. But Datsyuk checks guys, Datsyuk plays defense, and Datsyuk puts his heart into it so he's the better player. Same with Forsberg. He's more physical, better defensively, and played harder than lots of the guys on this list, but I do believe guys like Bure had more natural talent.

Agreed. Thought Paul Coffey was more "skilled" than Gretzky. He could glide faster than most players could skate. Also didn't know Kent Nilsson was so talented.

Unless his PPG goes way the fuck up, OV will never be ahead of Mario.

Yup, I think it's common sense that if Mario hadn't of been injuried or had cancer he would have broken many of Gretzky's records. But alas it's all shoulda, woulda, coulda. Personally I don't think there is any doubt that Mario is the most skilled player of all time. If you don't agree, you don't know hockey.
