interesting viewpoint:
Leland Irving can't break top-3 in abbotsford but appears to earn backup spot in yyc.
not that it will matter too much for the three games Kipper won't play.
He dash the Sentors weren't expected to make the playoffs last year & proved everyone wrong. At least one team seems to prove the experts wrong every year.
Maybe this is the year for the Flames to be awful (not tank per se), but with a strong upcoming draft class, a 14th place finish wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
I have Kipper on three fantasy teams. Good move?
The lottery system is still weighted though right (meaning the bad teams still have the best chances at top picks).
Well, you know barring injury, he'll have over 40 starts, so that's a plus. He should be good for at least a .910 save percentage and a couple of shutouts (48 game season), so yeah, I'll give it a

Maybe it's more of a dollars and cents issue than anything else
Hey Dash I missed the Eastern predictions last night.
Is there a link to the "experts" prognostications?
I was looking earlier and couldn't find one - They did pick the Sens to finish 7th in the East though.
/Pens and Rags in the Eastern Conference final, Kings and Hawks out West, with the Pens winning the Cup over the Kings

It's good strategy really. Why call up your top prospects just to ride the pine behind a workhorse like Kipper? Keep those guys where they get actual playing time and keep this guy around for emergencies.
If Kipper were actually to get hurt I'd bet Irving finishes that game, but one of the other guys gets the call to start subsequent games.

IF the Flames start tanking to a 14th place finish they could rebuild in a real hurry.
Trade Iginla at the deadline. Get a useful roster player, a prospect and a 1st rounder for him.
Trade Kipper at the deadline for a prospect and 1st rounder.
Trade J-Boy for a 2-5 round pick.
Result?
End up with a top 5 pick -->> Mackinnon, Jones, Drouin, Monahan, Barkov or Lindholm all look like they could be franchise-type players.
Two other 1st rounders in a deep draft.
Sven and two prospects gained in the Iggy and Kipper deals.
Pretty good foundation right there.
