Have to wonder how long the Sun Belt can keep them and App State. They put out quality team after quality team that tend to give the big boys trouble.

unlikely to go anywhere unless there is expansion somewhere else. it would have to be a cascading event. Big XII or Pac would have to expand to move teams around

Not necessarily to the P5, more along the lines of how a bunch of teams jumped from the Sun Belt to the C-USA. Maybe it just didn't make sense for them.

that happened when the Big East went away.
a couple teams went to ACC.
some stayed in and started the AAC. CUSA teams joined opening space.

I actually misunderstood what you meant, I read that as a jump to the P5. That's on me.

They had a winning coach in Neal Brown for the years....

2016: 10-3
2017: 11-2
2018: 10-3

That included 3 bowl wins.

Prior to that they had one 9 win season in 2009. (4-8) (3-9) (6-6) (5-7) (3-9)

Of course they posted record revenue.

It's most likely going to tail off unless new HC Matt Wells can keep what Brown built going.

Then they lost their coach.

They also lost their athletic director (to Southern Miss), but their new AD was already employed their as an assistant AD & was the guy who was in charge of much of the fund-raising the last few years.

The Trojans had 5 good seasons of 8+ wins before Larry Blakney crashed & burned during his last 3 seasons with the program.

When he first became head coach he had a great staff behind him that was good at recruiting & coaching players up; and he got a lot of good transfer students in the early years. But people kept luring away his coordinators & his later replacements couldn't maintain the same level of execution. Plus, I think he had kind of lost interest toward the end of his tenure.

Neal Brown got the ship arighted, but left with a good deal of uncertainty on the offensive side of things. They might be looking at a 6-6 season this year. I really don't know what to expect from the new head coach.

Troy appeared to be making a run at becoming the Boise St. of the East at one point, winning 21-9 at Mississippi St. during their first year in the FBS; then following up with a 24-14 home win against #19 Missouri in 2004 & a 41-23 home win vs Oklahoma St. in 2007. They also had a 41-31 home win over Navy in 2012.

Their first road win vs a ranked school was the 24-21 upset of #25 LSU in 2017. But they had a lot of close calls before that, losing 8-11 to Miss. St. in 2002, 20-24 at LSU in 2004, 17-24 at FSU in 2006, 38-44 to Georgia in 2007, 31-40 to #9 LSU in 2008, 38-41 at Oklahoma St. in 2010, 24-30 at Miss. St. & 48-55 at Tennessee in 2012, 31-38 at Duke in 2013 & 24-30 at #2 Clemson in 2016.

My point was simply addressing the record revenue being a reflection of the success of Neal Brown. Do you agree?

Do you think they maintain that record revenue going forward if Matt Wells doesn't maintain the success of the last 3 years?

Ehhhh Matt Wells is the HC of Texas Tech, not Troy.
